Dangerousness of Nowruz gatherings / Warning against normalization in society

Mohammad Mehdi Goya, head of the Ministry of Health’s Infectious Diseases Management Center, told a news conference with the media, which was held online: “The experience of these two years has shown us that long-term forecasts can be deceptive.” And keep us away from our goals. What we are seeing now is that in the last two to three weeks, the number of coronary heart disease and related deaths has decreased in the country.

He added: “Hospitalization cases have clearly decreased.” However, this decrease is not the same in all provinces; But in the macro dimension, we are generally witnessing a decrease in the disease trend and we hope that this trend will continue. But we do not want to be overly optimistic that God forbid our dear people neglect to follow health protocols.

Regarding the rallies on Wednesday in Syria, he stressed: “Any rallies in the country can be a stimulus to increase the incidence of the people and the outbreak of the disease.” We continue to emphasize the observance of health protocols, one of which is to avoid participating in gatherings.

Regarding the Ministry of Health’s plan to inject the fourth dose of the vaccine in the general population, Goya continued: “Currently, the fourth dose of the corona vaccine is only needed for those whose immune system is weak and some special patients who are at risk of developing severe disease.” .

Regarding the recent outbreak in China, he said: “What has been observed in China is the Omicron strain and no new strain has occurred, but China is dealing with outbreaks with very strict laws; That is, as soon as the disease flares up in a city, they impose very strict rules.

Regarding the provision of services to immigrants and citizens in Iran, Goya emphasized: “We had promised that the United Nations would cooperate in the field of citizens, but in fact we did not wait for the UN to provide vaccines for immigrants.” By the time the UN gave us the vaccine, we had vaccinated about 2.5 million migrants. Currently, 4 million and 129 thousand doses of vaccine have been administered in our country for the refugee population, of which 2 million 196 thousand were those who were vaccinated once and 1 million 627 thousand were those who were vaccinated twice. This was very difficult, and we did our best in the provinces that accept the immigrant population.

He emphasized: “Most of the time, we carried out the vaccination program by visiting the homes of these people, and it was difficult to convince this population of the importance of the vaccine in order to encourage them to be vaccinated.” We are constantly encouraging and informing them to complete their vaccinations so that we can be a good response to the prevention of Covid 19 in the immigrant population.

Goya stated: 61% of the immigrant population received two doses of vaccine and 81% received one dose of vaccine. To diagnose the disease in this population, we tested about one million and 94 thousand of these citizens who had symptoms, and we had about 103 thousand positive tests of this number that we treated. Of these, about 57,900 were hospitalized and treated.

He concluded by emphasizing that there is no difference in providing services to citizens and indigenous people, adding: “No country has ever provided such services for this number of people.” Even among European countries, no country can claim to have injected about 4 million doses of vaccine to its citizens. Of this 4 million doses, 2.6 million doses of vaccine have been provided by the United Nations, and the rest has been provided by the country itself.
