Death of giraffes in Safadasht zoo

According to Fars environment reporter, two giraffes died in Safadasht zoo due to an unknown reason.
Mohammad Karmi, the head of the Department of Wildlife Affairs of Tehran province, confirmed this news and said: One of these giraffes died in September and the other died in December of this year, and the cause of this issue is under investigation in the veterinary organization.
He said: experts and representatives of the veterinary organization have taken samples from the dead giraffes and autopsied them, and joint investigations will be conducted after the results are determined.
Kerami said about the possibility of the death of the first giraffe due to old age: I do not confirm this issue because the giraffes are transferred from breeding centers to the zoo in a few months so that there are fewer problems for this transfer. This giraffe was also brought to Iran from South Africa in 2017 at the same age and was about five years old, while the average life of a giraffe is about 25 years.
Regarding the negligence of Safadasht Zoo in keeping animals and the legal investigation of this matter, he said: We are waiting for the results of the investigations of the Veterinary Organization to be determined, so that after that, if the negligence of the relevant zoo is determined, we will make the necessary decisions and determine whether it is supposed to We should complain about it jointly or this should be done by the General Department of Environment of Tehran Province.
The recent death of these two giraffes is not the only case of animal loss in Safadasht Zoo, and earlier in 1998, a tiger collar, two zebra heads and a giraffe occurred in this center. In 1400, we witnessed the death of a sea lion in this zoo.
