Deputy Foreign Minister: German and American companies supplying Saddam with chemical weapons should be brought to justice

According to Fars news agency’s foreign policy group, Reza Najafi, Deputy Legal and International Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said today (Monday, December 7) at the 27th conference of member states of the Convention on the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons in The Hague: The Islamic Republic of Iran is the biggest victim of the systematic use of Chemical weapons in contemporary history neither forgives nor forgets the perpetrators and supporters of this crime.
He added: “During the imposed war, German and American companies gave Saddam’s regime equipment and chemical precursors to make chemical weapons, and they are complicit in Saddam’s crimes.” The perpetrators and supporters of this war crime must be brought to justice and this will not be subject to the passage of time.
Najafi emphasized the commitment of the member states to remove the inhumane unilateral sanctions that are against human rights and humanitarian rights, which led to the lack of access to the necessary equipment and medicines for the chemical veterans of our country, and demanded the immediate removal of these inhumane sanctions against our country.
He said: “The victims of Iran’s chemical weapons once fell victim to the use of these weapons that they gave to Saddam in the 1980s, and once again in the 2020s, they are victims of unilateral inhumane sanctions.”
Deputy Foreign Minister added:
The Zionist regime, having all kinds of weapons of mass destruction, is the most serious threat to peace and security in the region and the world, and the reason for the non-realization of the Middle East region free from weapons of mass destruction. The conference of members should take action to realize the universality of the convention and create a world free of chemical weapons.
