Discovery of a 10-million-year-old fossil of a deer in Mahneshan, Zanjan

According to the Aria Heritage Report and citing the public relations of the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts of Zanjan Province, Mohammad Reza Mohammadpour on Monday, June 7, 1401, referring to the transfer of deer footprints to the Zanjan Museum of Natural History, said: “The environment of Zanjan city was discovered and in addition to the footprints of deer, the footprints of herbivores and carnivores can also be seen inside this fossil.”

“This fossil is estimated to be about 10 million years old, which doubles the importance of the discovered fossil,” added the Zanjan Deputy Minister of Cultural Heritage.

“They are rocks now, but they were probably sedimentary layers that, when the animals moved from there, their footprints fell there and gradually became permanent, and their rocks have reached us,” he said of the fossils.

“Zanjan province is one of the provinces where the oldest fossil specimens have been identified in some parts of it and often in the western regions of Zanjan province,” said Mohammad Port.
