According to Mehr News Agency, quoted by Al Jazeera, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced that he will put the issue of amending the law on women’s right to choose hijab to a referendum.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan emphasized that he is ready to hold a referendum to include the right to wear the hijab in the country’s constitution, so that it will not be easy to change it, contrary to the parliament’s decision.

In a meeting with the representatives of the Justice and Development Party, he discussed this issue again and said: We are ready to take further steps to implement this referendum.

These statements were made while recently and on the eve of the Turkish elections, the issue of hijab has been raised in Turkey and the Justice and Development Party headed by Recep Tayyip Erdogan had a meeting with the opposition parties.

The use of hijab in offices and schools was prohibited in the Turkish constitution for years until Erdogan lifted this ban in 2013.

In this regard, the People’s Republic Party, which was the main opponent of the hijab, raised the issue of approving a law on women’s right to wear the hijab last month in order to gain religious votes.
