Escalation of tensions on the Belarusian-Polish border; Thousands of asylum seekers are in danger

According to IRNA on Tuesday from news media; The European Union (EU) has accused Belarus of inciting the refugee crisis with “stupid behavior” in support of Poland’s resistance to the influx of asylum seekers.

While the European Commission has threatened to impose more sanctions on Minsk, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has called for financial assistance to Minsk, citing an agreement reached between Turkey and the European Union.

Poland and other members of the European Union have accused the Minsk government of encouraging illegal immigration from the Middle East, Afghanistan and Africa to cross the Polish border and enter the European Union in retaliation for its sanctions against Belarus. Polish President Andrzej Duda also accused the Belarusian government of carrying out a border attack on his country.

But the Moscow-backed Minsk government has blamed Europe and the United States for creating a problem for asylum seekers by denying encouragement of the migrant crisis.

The European Commission has claimed that Belarus is offering illegal immigrants easy access to the border with Poland to enter the European Union.

The gathering of a large group of asylum seekers in the afternoon of November 8 (November 17) in Belarus and near the highway leading to the Polish border has been covered by the media. The issue of asylum seekers on the Polish-Belarusian border has reached a critical stage in recent days, with thousands of people in the area and Polish special forces preventing them from entering the country illegally.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told a joint news conference with Vatican Foreign Minister Paul Richard Gallagher today that the situation of migrants on the Belarusian-Polish-Lithuanian border should be regulated in accordance with humanitarian law standards.

Regarding the migration crisis on Belarus’ border with Poland and Lithuania, Lavrov said: “These problems are compounded by the policy pursued by Western countries, including NATO and the European Union, towards the Middle East for many years.”

Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov also told the media today that the presence of large numbers of asylum seekers on the Polish-Lithuanian border was “very worrying.”

Emphasizing the human dimension of this issue and the fact that there are a large number of women and children among asylum seekers, he noted that this issue requires more responsible behavior of countries related to this issue.
