At the same auction, a painting by French artist Pierre Solage set a record for his work, selling for $ 20.2 million.

The record of sales of the works of both painters was broken during the auction on Tuesday. Frida Kahlo’s “Me and Diego” sold for 34 million and 900 thousand dollars. This painting is one of Frida Kahlo’s paintings in which the face of Diego Rivera, her husband, is seen.

The previous record for the sale of one of Frida Kahlo’s paintings in 2016 was set at eight million dollars. According to the Sotheby’s auction, the painting “Me and Diego” was bought by the collection of Eduardo Constantini. The Argentine businessman and collector is the founder of the Museum of Latin American Art in Buenos Aires.

Diego and Me is now the most expensive Latin American work of art sold at auction. Frida Kahlo, best known for her mysterious look in her self-portraits, died in 1954 at the age of 47.

At Saturday’s auction, a painting by Pierre Solage, worth $ 20.2 million, also broke the sales record of the 101-year-old artist. Pierre Solage, known for his black paintings, was named “the world’s greatest living artist” in 2014 by then-French President François Hollande.
