Google is equipping the Messages app with responses generated by artificial intelligence

It cannot be denied that artificial intelligence is penetrating our lives more and more every day. While much of the recent discussion around AI has been largely a result of the widespread popularity of new AI-based tools like ChatGPT and DALL-E, the hype around AI will only get louder in the near future as more companies come on board.
Google, a late entrant to conversational AI chatbots, has recently made its option to compete with ChatGPT — called Google Bard — available in some countries. Although this is the first important step that Google has taken in the field of artificial intelligence, it will certainly not be the last step.

According to Aetna and quoted by Slashgear, when Google showed off “Bard” a few weeks ago, it also announced several AI-focused changes to Google’s core services, such as Google Search, Google Maps, and Google Translate. In addition, the company also explained about the advanced capabilities that the Google Lens tool obtains with the help of the company’s artificial intelligence.
Interestingly, what Google didn’t talk about at the time was the possibility of artificial intelligence entering the relatively mundane world of text messaging.

Coming soon: Text-related answers with increased precision

This report was published by 9to5Google, which recently analyzed the apk file of an unreleased version of Google Messages. This analysis revealed several previously unseen features hidden in its code.
Most notable was the possibility of deeper integration of Google Bard-based features.
Another thing revealed by this analysis is the possibility of Google using a glowing icon (similar to the one on Google Bard) to invoke the bard with one click. This button was right next to the emoji button in the text box in Google Messages.

While this feature is still in its infancy, the presence of a button to call a bard could mean that Google is possibly working on adding AI-generated responses to its messaging app.
In case of final implementation, the functionality of these responses will be based on analyzing the content of the message and proposing a list of possible responses based on the context of the conversation.

Note that these AI features are a significant improvement over similar features already available in select Google apps, including Google Maps, Google Meet, and Gmail.
