According to Mehr News Agency, citing the public relations of Sima Education Network, Mohammad Sadegh Batani, the director of Omid TV channel and the head of the scientific committee of the “Media Literacy” Olympiad, appeared on the TV program “And Today” and gave explanations about the details of this educational and research event.
He said: “Besides entrance exam, there has been a path in the field of education for the development of students in the field of science for a long time.” Olympiads such as biology, chemistry, mathematics, literature, astronomy, which have been more than 30 or 40 years old. In this framework, a new series has been added to the old Olympiads for nearly eight years. The old olympiads were focused on basic sciences and pure knowledge, but the new olympiads have moved towards becoming skilled and have moved away from the space of basic sciences to some extent. Nano Olympiad, Economics and Management, Geography Olympiad, Earth Sciences and Media Literacy Olympiad are examples of these new Olympiads.
The manager of Omid Network added: “Media Literacy” Olympiad is one of the 14 new Olympiads that was launched with the introduction of a book titled “Media Literacy” to schools that are taught in the 10th grade. Of course, 6 rounds of this Olympiad were held unofficially, and since last year, the 7th round has joined the official Jirga of the country’s Olympiads, and this year we will witness the 8th round of this event. In this way, 10th and 11th grade students in all fields of study can register to participate in this Olympiad. This Olympiad is not limited by academic field and all students in different fields can improve their knowledge and participate in this Olympiad if they are interested in art and media.
He said: The old Olympiads had the privilege of being exempted from entrance exams, but the new Olympiads do not have this privilege, but in this Olympiad, students get an opportunity to engage with the media. Of course, we also have a club called “Hope Club” where students can complete the process of learning the art of media literacy by joining this club and graduate from it. Referring to the efforts of the education network to pay attention to the needs of teenagers for education, he said: both in the Omid network and in the child network, we tried to make the designs suitable for the needs of children and teenagers. For example, in the teenage age group, there are a series of needs that are not a reference for answering them. One of these needs is education, and the education network has come into the field with strength, and with the efforts of Dr. Abdul Ali, who is one of the elders in the field of educational justice, in the new era, valuable productions have been launched, including the Iran Television School.
