How much fuel subsidies do the countries of the world give annually?

“$ 423 billion is spent annually by the governments of the world as fuel subsidies, and this has prevented countries from moving towards clean energy,” the secretary of the UN Development Program said in an interview, according to CNBC.

“We are very concerned and we are in a historic situation,” Akim Steiner said of the “Do Not Choose Extinction” campaign.

“All tools are available for climate change, but countries have not put the will to do so on the agenda,” he said.

The new campaign is aimed at countering subsidies in the fuel sector, and Steiner says the move is aimed at attracting young, old and those who think it has nothing to do with it.

According to the UN official, the use of fossil fuels is dragging the world in a direction where there is no way back to deal with climate change.

Steiner believes that allocating $ 423 billion is not the right way to spend people’s taxes.

Steiner argues that governments justify allocating money by saying that they want cheaper energy to go to low-income people, but in reality, when we look at the statistics, we see that rich people are unequally more profitable than subsidies. They cut the low-income class.
