How was the campaign “I am veiled and against the Irshad patrol” born? – Mehr news agency Iran and world’s news

According to Mehr news agency, the scientific meeting on understanding the experience of the campaign “I am veiled and against the guidance patrol”, hosted by Mehdi Teklo, with the presence of sociology researcher Atefeh Sadeghi, Imam Sadiq University faculty member Mustafa Ghafari, cinema researcher and cultural activist Maryam Shondi. and media and Sarah Hoshmandi, an activist of culture and media in the field of art.

At the beginning of this meeting, Mehdi Teklo, explaining the main issue of the meeting, said: We want to talk less about the hijab law, guidance patrol, etc. in this meeting and pay more attention to this campaign as a social phenomenon. To start the discussion, I ask these questions: What events and social equations do you consider this campaign to be? What are the hopes and fears of this campaign? Is the formation of “I am veiled and against the guidance patrol” a bad sign or not, and what should be done in similar cases in the future?

The way of salvation must be rooted in tradition
At the beginning of this meeting, Atefeh Sadeghi criticized some negligence towards the status of women and emphasized the need to review the executive mechanism of “Gestht Irshad”.

This social researcher continued referring to the campaign “I am veiled and against the guidance patrol” and said: I did not agree with this campaign because it is not in accordance with our traditions. Although I understand the structure of this campaign in the frameworks, the reason for my opposition is that I emphasize that what will lead to our liberation is that which arises from our tradition.

A campaign that does not satisfy the opposition

Maryam Shondi, a cinema researcher, said: We can have two approaches to this story; First, the external view considers hijab as an educational issue, and the other view considers it a point of protection from society, but the basic point is the same educational view. God has placed hijab as a tool that makes it easier for a person to face the outside world. I believe that hijab is individual in some places and social in some places, which happens to be an individual thing in the first step, but in the necessary point it should be a law, and the necessary point is public chastity.

He added: We cannot have a political barricade over what hurts public modesty, when this happens, the enemy takes advantage of this incident.

Criticizing the performance of Gesht Irshad, this cultural activist considered the formation of campaigns such as “I am veiled and I am against Gesht Irshad” as a “reform” protest that cannot satisfy the opposition due to its lack of radicalism.

Don’t look at the campaign as “opposition”.

Then Mustafa Ghafari, a member of the academic staff of Imam Sadiq University (AS) said: The idea of the Islamic Republic was not based on the government from the beginning, but was based on an understanding of social order, and through this, religious democracy was conceived for such a society. Currently, we are in an internal historical curve, but I don’t seem to see the internal layer, we need a bigger concept and term than the term “generation gap” for this issue.

Referring to the political aspects of the “hijab” category, Ghafari said: “It doesn’t matter who started the campaign “I am veiled and I am against the guidance patrol”, what matters is why some people joined it. Instead of looking at this campaign as a confrontation and saying that this is the society’s reaction to the government, and instead of wanting to make the issue feminine and masculine and judge how much of this issue is derived from political will, let’s say that this is a sign of a movement. It is social because the important thing is that it shows that a society is alive, still reacts to issues and is sensitive to some of its issues.

I protest, but I will not leave behind the Islamic Republic

Then Sara Houshmandi, an activist of culture and media in the field of art, said: As a veiled woman, we have never been passive and we have always protested, but the result of this campaign is not something that can be placed in my veiled basket. Have we protested about different issues? We, whose first issue is the Islamic Republic and our hearts burn for it, should think about these issues.

He added: “It is important for me that the performance of the Irshad patrol harms the image of the Islamic Republic.” Although I object to the Islamic Republic in some places, this is different from joining another voice and emptying the back of the Islamic Republic.
