Increasing tendency to use hookah among young people and women

According to Fars news agency, citing the public relations of the Attorney General’s Office, following the recent meetings of the Iran Anti-Tobacco Association with the Attorney General’s Office and in order to examine ways to prevent the smuggling of tobacco products, a joint meeting was held with the presence of Secretary General Masjidi, Executive Director Taheri and Hojatul Islam. Rabatian, the director of the communication unit of Iran’s anti-tobacco community, was held at the crime prevention office of the country’s general prosecutor’s office.

In this meeting, the reasons for the increase in the consumption of tobacco were pointed out, the lack of strict implementation of the law prohibiting the advertisement and promotion of tobacco products, the ease of access to tobacco, and the lack of an effective program to encourage smoking cessation.

The increase in the tendency to use tobacco, especially hookah, among young men and women in the age group of 18 to 25 years, exposure of 24% of teenagers to tobacco smoke at home was another report in this meeting.

It was decided that the use of cigarette sales stands, which has an advertising aspect, as well as the use of different packaging on tobacco products, are considered advertising and should be prohibited.

It is necessary that drug addiction clinics are developed and the services of these centers are covered by insurance.
