Instant iPhone Update: Why It’s Important to Install iOS 16.4.1


While the new version of Apple’s mobile operating system, iOS 16.4, added some nice new features to the growing pile of reasons to own an iPhone—including new emoji, Apple Pay Later, and 5G support on Google Fi—it’s not all bad. was not
Now, shortly after the update, Apple has released version 16.4.1 for iPhone 8 and all newer models, iPad Pro and iPad Air 3rd generation and later, and iPad mini 5th generation and later to fix some of the annoying issues.


According to Aetna and quoted by SlashGear, the main importance of this update is related to fixing two important security vulnerabilities.
Apple has found vulnerabilities in the IOSurface Accelerator (CVE-2023-28206) and WebKit (CVE-2023-28205) engines that could allow attackers to run arbitrary code on your device without your consent.
Apple says there are credible reports of active exploits targeting these holes.

Both of these vulnerabilities were discovered and disclosed by Google security researcher Clément Lecigne and Amnesty International researcher Donncha Ó Cearbhaill.
It is recommended that if you have not yet updated to the latest version of iOS, you should do so as soon as possible.

 




Older iOS devices are also fixed

The security issue is said to be so severe that Apple has released a special update even for owners of older iOS devices that don’t get beyond iOS 15. These devices include the iPhone SE, iPhone 6S, and iPhone 7, which includes all variants.

This update is also rolling out to the iPad Air 2 and iPad mini (4th generation), as well as the iPod touch.
If you have these models, look for version 15.7.5. You won’t get any other new features, but you can sleep easy knowing you’re protected against the latest known security threats.


To find out which iOS version you’re using, go to Settings > About > iOS Version.
If you’re not on the latest version, check for iOS updates by going to Settings > General > Software Update. If available, you should be able to download and install it immediately.
