Introducing the movie “City of Lies” at the Doyle Festival with Johnny Depp

Johnny Depp appeared at the Deauville Film Festival in France to introduce “City of Lies”.
Theater News Base: The night before, the Deauville Film Festival in France, which focuses on American cinema, hosted Johnny Depp, who appeared on the festival red carpet and then attended the launch of “City of Lies.”
“City of Lies” is about the investigation into the death of two famous black American rappers.
“The film was hijacked for three years because the Hollywoods wanted it that way,” Depp said at the ceremony. They killed the film for 3 years and we finally got the film.
The feature film premiered in France in 2018, but found no distributor and was canceled.
The City of Lies takes its audience to the United States in the 1990s and seeks to investigate the murders of two of America’s greatest rappers, Tupac and Beigi, who’s a music competition between the West and East Coasts of America.
In the film, Inspector Russell Poole, played by Johnny Depp, focuses on the case again at the request of an alcoholic journalist, played by Forrest Whitaker. The film combines the story and some archived images, showing Los Angeles police conducting a vicious investigation into the killings, and corrupt and criminal individuals preventing a serious police investigation.
The film, directed by Brad Foreman, raises many questions about the killings and asks why the perpetrators of the two murders were never found.
At the ceremony, Johnny Depp was applauded by his French fans, and in response to questions from him, he said: “People, culture, happiness, appreciation for every day of life, every day is a day of praise.” Every day here is a celebration and I see this only in France and for that I thank all of you.
The screenplay is based on a book by Randall Sullivan who had a close relationship with Jackson and is based on reality. He has also dealt well with violence against blacks, Indians and immigrants.
The film also had its own side effects, and Johnny Depp was accused during filming of punching Greg Brooks as the film’s stage director, but it turned out that he had been slandered and that he had not done so. This became a reason for postponing the release of the film, and Depp later claimed that it was a conspiracy by the Los Angeles police to prevent the release of the film.
The 47th Deauville American Film Festival will be held in France from September 3 to 12 (September 12 to 21), and this year Farhadi’s film “Hero” will also be screened.
