Iraq’s readiness to provide the basis for the start of political negotiations between Iran and Saudi Arabia


According to the foreign policy group of Fars News Agency, Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian had a telephone conversation with Iraq’s Foreign Minister Fouad Hossein tonight (Thursday). In this conversation, the expansion of bilateral relations and the latest developments in the region were discussed.

The foreign ministers of the two countries had met each other during the recent visit of Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi to Tehran (July 5). In this telephone conversation, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, while thanking the Iraqi authorities for the efforts made in facilitating the affairs of Iranian pilgrims, demanded that the Iraqi government follow up on the remaining issues of Hajj affairs.

Fouad Hossein, the Iraqi Foreign Minister, by announcing assistance to follow up on the remaining issues related to the annual Hajj trip, emphasized the readiness of the Iraqi government in order to provide the necessary grounds for the start of political negotiations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Saudi Arabia in Baghdad, and expressed hope that these talks would lead to positive developments in the resumption of relations between two important countries in the region.

It should be mentioned that so far five rounds of dialogue between Iran and Saudi Arabia have been held in Baghdad hosted by Iraq.

Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi recently visited Tehran, and Saeed Khatibzadeh, the former spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said: “Al-Kazemi’s trip to Tehran was planned in advance, and this trip made sense in the context of bilateral issues and regional developments, including the positive role and The builder that Baghdad has played in the relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia in the past months. According to Fars, the foreign ministers of Iran and Iraq had a telephone conversation on June 26.
