Isabel Ajani was sentenced to 2 years of suspended imprisonment/charged with tax evasion

One of the most famous figures of French cinema has been sentenced to 2 years of suspended prison after being accused of tax violations.

Charso Press: According to Variety, Isabelle Ajani was sentenced to 2 years of suspended imprisonment and a fine of 250,000 euros in a court in Paris.

Ajani, one of the most prestigious French actresses, was found guilty of living permanently in Portugal between 2016 and 2017 to avoid paying 236,000 euros in taxes, depositing 120,000 euros into her account in the United States without declaring it and concealing a 2 million euro donation.

Olivier Pardo, a lawyer for Ajani, who was nominated for an Academy Award for his roles in “Camille Claudel” and “The Adele Story,” told Variety that Ajani denies the allegations and will appeal.

In October, the financial prosecutor demanded an 18-month suspended sentence in addition to a 250,000-euro fine, but the court eventually imposed a higher penalty on the actor.

His lawyer added: Isabel Ajani could not attend the court and we requested to change the time of the court, but they did not allow it.

A tax fraud investigation began in 2016 after Ajani’s name appeared in the Panama Papers.

Ajani has also been under official investigation since October 2020 for concealing hundreds of thousands of dollars in earnings. The investigation was initiated by a complaint filed by one of his former business associates in 2015.

Despite the fact that this 68-year-old actor has had continuous legal troubles in recent years, he has still appeared in numerous roles. He recently appeared in Melanie Lauren’s Netflix hit The Thieves and starred in Francois Ozon’s Petra von Kant, which opened the 2022 Berlin Film Festival.
