It is necessary to increase the admission capacity of medical students

Amir Hossein Banki Pourfard, a member of the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution and a representative of the people of Isfahan in the Islamic Consultative Assembly, said about the 20% increase in the admission capacity of medical students:

Referring to the meetings of the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution with the Ministry of Health to increase the admission capacity of medical students, he added: “The 20% quota increase was determined and approved with the consent of the Ministry of Health.”

Banki Pourfard, emphasizing the necessity of the implementation of this decree by the Ministry of Health, continued: “Considering the agreement of the government and the Islamic Consultative Assembly, there should be no delay in the implementation of this decree.”

He said that the Ministry of Health must first register the disobedience of the decision of the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution, he said: Finally, the increase in the admission quota for medical students was set at 20%.

The representative of the people of Isfahan in the Islamic Consultative Assembly said: in the review sessions of this resolution, the Medical Academy announced that they did not need a doctor, and the Medical Academy had announced this in an official letter, which was opposed by the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution.

Referring to the remarks of the Minister of Health during the decree, he added: “In this meeting, the Ministry of Health announced that the problem is more in the distribution of forces and policy-making in deprived areas.”

Banki Pourfard said that the existing problems in the field of health will not be solved just by increasing the capacity, adding that part of the problems goes back to improper distribution. The method of distribution should also be reviewed.

He continued: “Indigenous quotas should be added in a way that is most effective and policy should be done in such a way that doctors serve in indigenous areas.”

A member of the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution, referring to the decisions of the meetings to review the decision to increase the admission capacity of medical students, said: “In addition to increasing quotas, it was decided to provide conditions for universities and infrastructure for education.”

He added: “If the Ministry of Health, despite this resolution and emphasis, has not yet implemented this issue, it should be held accountable.”

Banki Pourfard stated that until a month ago, the supervisory bodies did not play a significant role in the approvals of the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution. He continued: it was approved by the council and the head of the judiciary also ordered the inspection of the whole country that the approvals be supervised by the supervisory institutions and followed up. Therefore, the Islamic Consultative Assembly and the General Inspection Organization must follow up on the non-implementation of this resolution.
