Referring to the negative effects and consequences of prison punishment for the prisoner, his family and the society, he stated: the type, form, gender and examples of punishments have undergone transformation and changes in all human societies; Due to the spirit of revenge and punishment in the past centuries, the process of punishing criminals was carried out with very heavy punishments with the cruelty of the heart towards the condemned, which with the development of humanitarian thoughts and thoughts and the reduction of the tendency to punish and the prominence of the spirit of reform and rehabilitation and Prevention of crime, the severity of punishments was reduced.

This judicial official added: But due to its negative effects and consequences, prison punishment has lost its dominant effectiveness and deterrent effect, and imprisonment is considered a burnt punishment, therefore, due to the advancement of criminals and the tools used in committing crimes, the reaction He demands that the punishment should be proportional to the crime and deterrence, that in line with morality and humanity and the correct implementation of the punishment in order to achieve its goals, alternatives to imprisonment entered the country’s penal system.

He clarified: In Iran, with the approval of the Islamic Penal Law approved in 1992, there are practically new friendship facilities such as; Suspension, supervised prosecution, semi-liberty system, postponement of sentencing, exemption from punishment, etc. were considered in order to de-incarcerate and reduce the criminal population.

The Chief of Justice of Yazd province announced the holding of the festival of the best votes instead of imprisonment and said: “Definitely holding this festival can play a role in improving the quantity and quality of votes instead of imprisonment and promoting the culture of de-imprisonment in the judiciary of the province.”

He mentioned the purpose of punishment is to reform the criminal and ensure the safety of the society and stated: Although for violent crimes, there is no other way than using imprisonment for the purpose of ensuring the safety of the members of the society, but it must be acknowledged that in the case of minor crimes and the style of alternative punishments Imprisonment, especially with the change created by the Law on Reduction of Imprisonment Punishment, which includes crimes of the 2nd to 4th degree, subject to conditions, has a far greater effect on resocializing criminals and reforming them.
