Kakan piste was inaugurated in 1373 with the installation of an elevator and then until 1984, its facilities were increased with three ski lifts, including one elevator for beginners and two elevators for professional skiers.

According to tourism experts, Kakan ski slope is a dormant asset and a hidden capacity in the center of Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad.

This 600-meter-long track is located on the Yasuj-Eghlid communication road in the cold region of Kakan, Boyer-Ahmad city, and its altitude is about 2600 meters above sea level.

According to the provincial road report and based on the statistics extracted from the traffic counters, more than 12,000 cars pass through the Kakan ski slope on holidays and up to 3,000 on non-holidays.

“More serious attention to the sport of skiing in this province is essential for entrepreneurship and job creation,” said the president of the Ski Federation during a recent visit to Yasuj and meeting with senior managers in Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Provinces.

Abbas Nazarian stated: “Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad is a province suitable for skiing and due to its suitable weather conditions and geographical location, it can be considered in the field of skiing and sports tourism in the country.”

“Only 15 provinces in the country have a ski board, and Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad are among the provinces with the desired capacity in the field of skiing,” he added.

“Skiing is a youth-friendly sport with 10 sub-sports,” said the president of the Ski Federation.

“The Ski Federation is ready and willing to invest in order to help further the development of this sport in Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad,” Nazarian said.

“The geographical location of this province and having a unique and forested mountain is one of the blessings of God to the people of this region and the capacity and potential of athletes and ski champions of the province in the country is a source of pride,” said the president of the ski federation.

“The capacity and capability of Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad ski athletes is impressive and they can be raised in the country if needed,” Nazarian added.

Launching a ski school at Kakan ski resort

The head of the General Directorate of Sports and Youth, Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad, described skiing as a fun and exciting sport, saying: “Kakan Yasuj ski resort is the only ski resort in the country that benefits from city gas.”

Behrouz Jahanbakhsh added: “Soon a ski school will be set up at the Kakan Yasuj ski slope, and this slope is ready to host the national championships.”

Jahanbakhsh stated: “The establishment of a cultural and snow sports festival at the Kakan Yasuj ski slope in cooperation with the Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad General Directorate of Cultural Heritage is one of the important programs of the General Directorate of Sports and Youth and the province’s ski board.”

“This measure can help attract more tourists and sports tourism in Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad,” he continued.

Jahanbakhsh demanded more and more material and spiritual support from the ski federation for this sport in Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad.

Traffic is a major traffic problem on the ski slope

“Traffic on the weekends is an important problem in the movement of athletes and different segments of the people to the Kakan Yasuj ski slope,” said the head of the Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad ski board.

“It is expected that the officials of the Road Police and the General Directorate of Highways and Transportation of Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Roads will cooperate to solve this problem,” said Hamid Zarafshan.

“Finding talent for boys and girls under the age of 12 and starting a ski school is one of the important programs of the Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Ski Board,” he added.

More than 50,000 organized male and female athletes in various disciplines are active in Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad.

Ayatollah Seyyed Nasir Hosseini, the representative of the Supreme Leader in Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad, considered sports to be very important and emphasized that paying attention to sports infrastructure is one of the important ways to ensure the health of people in society and prevent various injuries and social anomalies.

He called for solving the traffic problem of access to Kakan Yasuj ski slope, especially on holidays.

The governor’s emphasis on investing in the province’s sports affairs

Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad governors also said in this regard: “Factors affecting the increasing strengthening of various sports in the province, including skiing, are being seriously pursued.”

Seyed Ali Ahmadzadeh stated: “The necessary investment will be made in all sports sectors of Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad soon.”

“No plan was presented to the Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad sports community during the visit of the president and some members of the cabinet to the province on October 30, 2014,” he added.

Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad governors stated: “Any plan and program effective in the development of sports in this province will be pursued in terms of providing the required financial resources from the provincial budget and centralized resources in the country.”

Ahmadzadeh stated: “Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad sports authorities should prepare and present constructive, scientific and studied plans and programs as soon as possible.”
