King Abdul Azim Gate, a century ago + Images


According to the visual correspondent of Fars News Agency, the International Council of Historic Buildings and Sites (ICOMOS) has named April 18 (April 29) as “World Day of Historic Sites and Monuments”.

On the same pretext, we review the old photographs of the gate of Shah Abdolazim of Tehran, a gate that no longer exists outside. This gate has experienced 2 historical periods; The first gate was built during the reign of Sofia and by the order of Shah Tahmasb, and later during the Qajar period, the number of gates in Tehran increased from 5 to 12 gates of Khorasan, Shah Abdolazim, Ghar, Customs, Qazvin, Behjatabad, Dolat, Shemiran, Dushanbeh, Dolab, Baghshah and Cheragh Electricity rose. Of course, the location of Shah Abdul Azim Gate was changed and it was moved from Molavi Street to Shousha Square.

The twelve gates of Tehran were destroyed in 1309 AD during the period of Karim شهرداری Agha Bouzarjomehri Municipality under the pretext that the city should be renovated. Of course, two gates were built during Reza Khan’s time, which are Baghmali Gate and Mohammadiyeh Gate.


The historical gate of Shah Abdolazim was built about 5 years ago in order to keep alive the historical identity of the capital in Shousha Square.

In the following, we review the historical images of the gate of Shah Abdolazim in the Qajar period. These photographs are at least a century old.
