Mehdi Hashemi: I am more than ashamed to play! / The story of playing the role of Dr. Gharib

According to Fars News Agency, the Museum of Iranian Cinema, following the publication of its series of oral history sessions on the occasion of the birthday of “Seyed Mehdi Hashemi”, actor in cinema, theater and television, has published excerpts from the oral history conversation of this artist in March 2017, which you can read below. .

Mehdi Hashemi, stating that he was born in the city of Langarud, said: “I remember we cried as children and we asked our father to take us to Chamkhaleh for swimming.” I have loved swimming since I was a child, as I am a skilled swimmer today, and if my legs were not injured, I would have wanted to compete in the senior swimming competition.

He continued: I was accepted to the Faculty of Fine Arts, majoring in Performing Arts, and there I met Dariush Farhang; A man from the south who came from Abadan and I a man who came from the north. This attitude was constructive for me and I always thank him and keep telling him that it was good to meet him.

Regarding the importance and position of the actor in making the film, Hashemi added: “The actor’s presence is more important than anything, especially the presence in front of the director, because in a film or theater, the director knows everything and we stand in front of the director to see what makes us Wants. Much of our presence in front of the director is due to the similarity of the role. I remember when I played the role of Dr. Gharib in the middle of work, I did not know if I was Dr. Gharib or if he was like me. Dr. Gharib’s taste, opinion, life, behavior and actions were important for the credibility of the role, and I tried to be very close to him in this role.

He also mentioned about his collaboration with Ali Rafiei: Dr. Rafiei had a great impact on my making. We worked on a play with him in which I played the role of the young Nasser al-Din Shah. For this role, Dr. Rafiei worked with our body and expression for a year.

Hashemi added: “The reason I won the award for” two films with one ticket “was that my friends were on the jury at the Fajr Film Festival that year; Rakhshan Bani-Etemad, Alireza Shoja Nouri, etc., who were kind to me. It is interesting that twenty years later, I was also awarded for the films “Alzheimer’s” and “Agayosef”, and by chance, the judges of that Fajr Film Festival were also my friends. We did, as well as other friends.

He continued: “I am an actor who erases my previous play from my mind for new works, empties myself of the past and gives my thoughts, tastes and soul to the new director as much as possible so that I can play a different role.” To offer.

Hashemi, stating that the actor must have a continuous presence, said: the actor must have a continuous presence because he plays people’s lives and plays for the people. Messrs. Ali Nasirian, the living memory of Mohammad Ali Keshavarz and the living memory of Ezatullah Entezami are important and lasting actors because they were always with the people and were like the people and all Iranian emotions, feelings and looks passed through the eyes of these greats and maps were found. The type of actors is low.

He noted: “I once asked a humorous friend named Aziz Saati, a veteran cinematographer. We have worked together for decades. What do you think of me? In response, he told me that in the current situation, the artistic life of any artist may be interrupted at any moment. Be happy that you got here and were able to work with good directors.

Hashemi also said about playing a role in comedy films: “I am more embarrassed to play a role and I always tell the directors how much I can play a comedy role and they should go to Jerry Lewis more than that.”

In the end, he stated that he is very much in favor of happiness and believes that God created man for happiness: Young people should find an opening to light and purity in the most smoky spaces and go to it, and this can be done through exercise. It is exalting by reading poems because we have great people like Hafez, Saadi, Rumi, etc. who are very important to all of us.

Veteran actor Mehdi Hashemi won Crystal Simorgh for Best Actor in a Leading Role for “Two Films with One Ticket” at the 9th Fajr Film Festival in 1990, won Crystal Simorgh for Best Actor in a Leading Role for “Mr. Yousef” and “Alzheimer’s” And the 9th Fajr Film Festival in 1389, won the statuette of the best actor in the lead role for the film “Bulletproof”, the sixth festival of the Iranian Cinema Critics and Writers Association in 1391.

The Museum of Iranian Cinema, as a cultural and historical collection that narrates the history and developments of Iranian cinema, considers itself obliged to collect the opinions and views of experienced and veteran cinematographers so that future generations can see the way of life and the way of creating and shaping the works of artists. And get acquainted with cinema art experts.
