On the 8th of May, after presenting its last defense in the indictment against Hamid Nouri, the Swedish Prosecutor’s Office asked for “life imprisonment” for the charge of war crimes.

The Islamic Republic of Iran has repeatedly demanded the release of Hamid Nouri and strongly criticized Sweden’s decision to arrest him and set up a trial. Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian, in a phone call with Sweden’s Foreign Minister Ann Linde, called Hamid Nouri’s arrest and trial as an Iranian citizen “illegal” and demanded his “immediate release”.

The Swedish authorities have stated that Sweden has an independent judicial system and the government of this country cannot interfere in the decision of its judicial system.
