Out; The regret that stays in the hearts of the audience!

“Outside” is the third film by Morteza Ali Abbas Mirzaei to be screened at the 40th Fajr Film Festival. The film tells the life story of Alireza Biranvand, the goalkeeper of the Iranian national football team from his childhood to entering professional football and membership in the Iranian national football team and an important peak in his football, namely attending the World Cup and shining in the Iran-Portugal game and spectacular restraint. And the unforgettable penalty kick of Cristiano Ronaldo.

By choosing a contemporary hero who breathes with us, “Biro” has moved away from the common margins that are always present by such people and families of celebrities towards such biographical films. This film is the second hero-oriented film of Iranian cinema after “Takhti” made by Bahram Tavakoli, the protagonist of which is an athlete. In both films, the protagonist reaches the peak of fame and popularity from the depths of poverty and deprivation. Apart from this similarity, the difference between the two films is technically and having cinematic standards from earth to sky. The sequences of the Throne Wrestling are so tangible and real that the audience looks at the Throne Wrestling with excitement and apprehension and prays in its heart that he will win the competition, especially the sequence of the final wrestling at the Melbourne Olympics and the Throne winning the throne with his eyes closed and wounded. It arouses a sense of pride in the audience, on the other hand, the scenes inside the “outside” football field with the filming of very fancy circles and poor imitation of the style and context of footballers’ animation, which only excites its teenage audience and not only arouses a sense of pride in the audience. It makes him laugh and make fun of us, reminding us that time stops when shots and throws are fired by the hand and the round eyes are surprised by the coaches who follow the path of the ball with their mouths open.

The reason for all these differences, both in the script and in the production, is that behind the camera of “Takhti” there is an experienced, skilled and professional director, but “Biro” is made by an amateur, young and inexperienced director. It is commendable that young filmmakers have the courage to make such an attractive subject, but on the other hand, except for a few films about Alireza Biranvand, there will be an opportunity for such a pure subject not to fall into the hands of a capable director and writer. Why didn’t the Farabi Foundation spend more at all to at least help the film be seen and sold more by using famous actors?

The film is hit hardest first by the script and characterization, and then by the production and execution.

It is true that the actor in the role of Biro is very similar to Biranvand and his simplicity and clarity sit in the heart of the audience, but it seems that the filmmaker deliberately avoids approaching him and showing different angles of his personality. The characters of the story coaches and their reactions are also unbelievable to the audience, such as the inherent enmity of Feyz, the head coach of Vahdat team, with Biro and his friends, or the dismissal of Ali Rahmani from the oil team for a simple dance on the bus and the aggressive behavior of the company. – There is no logical justification.

In addition to his simple narrative, the filmmaker wants to avoid political and social issues and, for example, portray the role of money and parties in football, but he can not provide a suitable and effective platform for expressing his concerns, for example, instead of just Alireza and His friends heard about this many times, he could, along with all the extra characters, design the character of a teenager who, without having the ability and talent, for example, because his father had influence and wealth, was among the team players.

“Outside” is not only a character-oriented film, but also a family-oriented film about a family. Although Alireza is repeatedly insulted, humiliated and beaten by his father, he does not show any disrespect to him and when he achieves the slightest success, he sends his best efforts to his father. His love for Akram is also commendable. A girl who is perhaps his only encouragement in his family. The love that leads to marriage and the final sequence of the story of Alireza and Akram smiling smiling with smiling faces in front of the Freedom Tower is actually the reward of Alireza’s efforts around the clock.

“Biro” is a film that is better than its absence, perhaps this is the reason why it was chosen among the 22 films of the Fajr Film Festival; Modeling makes a lot of sense in Iranian cinema, but the point is that all of these themes are expressed in Alken’s language, and watching it leaves critics with nothing but regret.
