Radeon RX 7000 graphics card supports DisplayPort 2.0 standard

Study time: 2 Minutes

As you know, Radeon RX 7000 series graphics cards based on RDNA 3 architecture are being developed and will be available by the end of 2022, according to AMD. In the latest report, the next generation of red team graphics cards will be equipped with DisplayPort 2.0 standard. Stay tuned to Lyon Tak.

A user named Kepler_L2 recently posted on Twitter some interesting information about the implementation of DisplayPort 2.0 UHBR20 in the graphics processor of the Radeon RX 7000 graphics card. The UHBR certification, or Ultra High Bit Rate, is the highest connectivity in display cables such as DisplayPort at three levels: UHBR10, UHBR13.5 and UHBR20.

The second level (UHBR20) is able to offer 80 Gbps bandwidth, which is a much higher figure compared to the HDMI 2.1 standard (with 32 Gbps bandwidth). This is even more than the 48GB DisplayPort 1.4a bandwidth.

Previously, VESA (the group responsible for setting the standard for DisplayPort technology) in 2019 was hesitant to introduce the new UHBR standard for DisplayPort (DP) 2.0, but it was finally introduced and made available. Now, the available information indicates that AMD is adding DisplayPort UHBR20 to RDNA 3 based graphics cards.

According to calculations, the addition of UHBR20 in DisplayPort 2.0 could provide 16K image output (with DSC) or 10K output without DSC. The UHBR20 is also capable of receiving 8K output at a rate of 120 Hz on two HDR-enabled displays.

Since late last year, many users have been waiting for the release of displays equipped with DisplayPort 2.0. It is rumored that with the release of AMD’s Radeon RX 7000 graphics card this fall, we will see the release of DisplayPort 2.0 technology at the same time.
