Revival of Imam Khomeini Square in District 12 of Tehran

Yazdi added: In the meantime, the access of vehicles from Khayyam Street and Imam Khomeini Street to North Ferdowsi had become more difficult. Because these devices used to enter Ferdowsi simply by moving around the square; But after the geometrical change in 2019, they had to enter the south side of the square, Nasser Khosro St., Pol Alley, Saadi St. and enter Amir Kabir Road again to reach Ferdowsi St.

Stating that the removal of traffic from the north side had caused the traffic load to increase on the south side of the square and Naser Khosro Street and created problems, he continued: Among these problems was the increase in motorcycle traffic. This means that in order to reduce the travel distance, instead of entering Koche Post and Saadi, the motorcycles made an unauthorized U-turn on Nasser Khosro Street and entered Imam Khomeini Street.

The mayor of Qalb Tehran emphasized the necessity of revising the plan of the urban plaza in this square and stated: Accordingly, this year and due to the increase of public and business dissatisfaction in that area, the issue of opening the square was proposed, and considering that the width of the riding area The north side of the square was about 20 meters when this area was converted into a sidewalk. It was decided to open three crossing lanes with a maximum width of 10 meters from the north side for the traffic of passing vehicles. The north side of the street was seen to create a rescue route.

While recalling the fact that in the Commission Article 5 of Imam Khomeini Square, it was mentioned to widen the sidewalk on both sides of the square along with the preservation of its central core, he said: Considering the construction of the municipality building and the space in front of this building in the workshop fence, After dismantling this fence, about 20 meters will be added to the width of the plaza; That is, after the operation of the municipality building on the north side, we will have a plaza with a width of about 20 meters and an area of ​​about 4 thousand square meters.

According to Yazdi, in the new design, while 10 meters from the plaza on the north side of Imam Khomeini Square will be converted to pedestrian traffic and the flow of traffic in the square will be established as before, the plaza will also be preserved and those interested in sightseeing will enjoy the atmosphere of old Tehran in District 12. They can use it as the historical heart of Tehran.
It should be noted that this plan is being implemented with the cooperation of the traffic police and its problems will be resolved in the coming days.
