Rising drug prices are inevitable

According to Fars News Agency’s health group, Mohammad Reza Shanesaz, head of the Food and Drug Administration, said about the increase in the price of some drugs and painkillers: “The increase in the price of drugs has been done since last year and this increase in the price of drugs is inevitable. Since last year, due to the fact that it was not possible to cover all drugs with a currency of 4200 Tomans, it was possible.

“The rise in the price of medicines is not a new thing,” he said. “For example, the Food and Drug Administration has inevitably turned some items that did not require prescriptions or were not considered vital medicines into half currency.”

The head of the Food and Drug Administration stated: Of course, only 30 to 35% of the drugs that are calculated in the currency of 4200 Tomans are in full currency and the rest of the items are done in half currency.

Shansaz added: “There are costs for fillers and packaging of boxes that must be calculated in free currency, so price increases on some drugs are inevitable.”

He said that the difference between the half currency and the preferred currency is the same: “Higher credits should be considered for the difference in the exchange rate for drugs and insurance companies should also support in this regard to put less pressure on consumers.”
