Samsung likely to ship more handsets with Exynos chip by 2022

Samsung is apparently increasing the production capacity of Exynos chipsets and wants to use these chips in more economical and mid-range phones next year. The goal of the Koreans is to more than double the share of Exynos chips in Galaxy phones.

According to the news agency ET News, Samsung wants to increase the number of Exynos phones from 2022. This strategy includes the company’s flagship handsets and Samsung’s mid-range and mid-range products. The report says that Samsung intends to double the production volume of Exynos chips by 2022. The share of Exynos chipsets in Galaxy phones is expected to increase from 20% to 50% to 60%.

Samsung has long relied heavily on Qualcomm and MediaTek to supply its low-end and mid-range handset chips. But now it seems that it wants to be more self-sufficient by solving the main challenges of Exynos chipsets. Informed sources say that one of the challenges facing Exynos chipsets is the heat problem caused by 5G communications.

Samsung’s System LSI unit is reportedly working with AMD to increase the GPU of Exynos chipsets. Earlier, In-Yoop Kang, CEO of System LSI, said that Samsung’s next flagship phone will use AMD’s next-generation GPU. This is the same family as the Galaxy S22, which will probably be introduced in February, and new renderings of its Ultra model have just hit the Internet.

On the other hand, given the global chip shortage crisis, it makes sense for Samsung to use Exynos chipsets to supply chips for its products. This strategy will also allow Exynos’ business to grow and develop, and could bring more collaboration to the unit in the future.

For the Galaxy S22 series, Samsung is working on a chipset called the Exynos 2200, which will have graphics based on AMD’s RDNA2 architecture.
