According to IRNA, Iran’s national blind and partially sighted judo team won three gold and one silver medals in Baku. Vahid Nouri, Seyed Maitham Bani Taba and Vahid Jedi won the gold medal and Mohammad Reza Khairullahzade won the silver medal. Vahid Jedi’s winning of the gold medal was accompanied by the reaction of the Judo Federation, which in a statement declared his sending to the Baku competitions illegal.
Vahid Jedi In an interview with IRNA reporter, in response to the Judo Federation’s statement, he said: I don’t know what the purpose of this statement is, but I have been active in national competitions and in the blind section for four years, and my class has been approved internally. The federation had a request from me a few months ago and I competed for them in the solidarity games of Islamic countries. I must say that despite my participation in Judo for the healthy, my classification is B2 and I have no problem competing in the blind section.
The gold medalist of the Baku World Championships continued: “Maybe some people think there is a problem with the domestic classifications, but I was also classified in the Republic of Azerbaijan.” I was examined by four certified competition doctors and I was fine for the competition. The validity of this classification is also for four years, and I have no problem participating in the 2024 Paris Paralympics. If the Judo Federation has a problem, it should ask foreign doctors. I have no problem with the competition and if sent to major tournaments I will try to reach the 2024 Paris Paralympics.
Vahid Jedi defeated the judokas of Mongolia, Georgia and Kazakhstan in the 73 kg weight category in the Baku World Championships and defeated the Ukrainian representative in the final match to become the owner of the gold necklace.
