Setting up Ta’zia in the inner tent of “Rahil”
According to Fars news agency’s art reporter, The historical series “Rahil” directed by Masoud Abparvar is a romantic story at the end of the Qajar period and the beginning of the Pahlavi rule, which is accompanied by the return of “Maha” from the trip to Karbala. This collection has a women’s story and the narrator is a person named “Maha” from the Qajar court who tries to unite other women inside and perform an Ashura ritual. The historical series “Rahil” has been aired on the Three TV channel since August 28.
In a note, Iqbal Mohammadpour, an expert in performing arts, has mentioned the role of the art of Ta’ziyya and indirect payment to Ashura rituals in the “Rahil” series. We read this note below.
Ta’ziyeh is a special performing art that has an ancient history, but most people know this type of performance with religious narratives, especially the events of Ashura. In most parts of Iran, ta’ziyeh is held and the artists of this field gather people and bring the scene of Karbala and other religious events in front of their eyes.
Many documentaries have been made about Ta’zieh, but in few films or series, the art of Ta’zieh and Ta’zieh singers have a special effect. During the Qajar era, when the government relied on the place where the famous and great Ta’zieh were performed, many people came to this place during the Muharram days and witnessed the performance of Ta’zieh singers. Ta’zia is a masculine art, even instead of female characters, men and teenagers play their roles. Just as we have Abulfazl Khan, there is also Zainab Khan.
During the Qajar era, the women of Andoroni held tazizias during the days of mourning, especially in the month of Muharram, with the presence of women or immature children. In the “Rahil” series, which is aired on Se-Ghade channel, this topic is discussed and the women perform ta’ziyeh in Andoroni.
Maha, one of the Qajar princes, is in charge of this ceremony. He goes to Sahaf Bashi Darbar, who is both familiar with the versions of the ta’zi and has a hand in it himself, to perform ta’zi. Maha asks him to make arrangements and teach a young boy and some women who serve in the court how to chant. In fact, the role of Moin al-Baka is given to her, but she cannot attend the Ta’zia held inside the Golestan Palace, because it is a women’s assembly.
Sahaf Bashi chooses a version and teaches the people Maha introduced. His son Aslan, who is Khaterkhah Mahas, also participates in this work and undertakes the preparation of plaques, flags and other necessities.
“Raheel” series, which was designed and produced by Ramin Abbasizadeh and accompanied by a group of experienced actors, was produced without trying to directly teach the audience about ta’ziyeh, but it is presented to the audience in the form of an attractive story. This indirect payment to Ashura rituals is one of the best measures to attract the audience in the performing arts, and the Raheel series has also taken advantage of it.
Apart from the story aspect, Raheel also has an informative aspect about Ta’ziyya, and for example Sahaf Bashi in a part of this series, about the clothes of the characters of the parents and Ashqia, for example, the color of the clothes of Imam Hussain (AS), Hazrat Abul Fazl (AS), Hazrat Zainab (S). , Harban Riahi and…. explains so that the audience who did not know the meaning of colors in Ta’ziyeh until now will get to know them.
Farrokh Nemati, who has a long and brilliant history in the theater and is fully familiar with the art of Ta’ziyeh, in the role of Sahaf Bashi Darbar, conveys what people need to know about Ta’ziyeh with precision and artistry.
Choosing an experienced actor like Farrokh Nemati was the best option to play the role of Sahaf, and maybe if someone else played this character, he would not have been able to do the job as well as he did. In addition, Sahaf’s son played by Ali Abbasizadeh is one of the familiar characters of Raheel series.
Due to the large number of viewers, TV series should introduce people to Iran’s religious and national culture as much as they can. Preserving traditions is one of the main duties of filmmakers and series producers, which they should pay special attention to. A few series like “Rahil” have fulfilled this religious and national duty. We hope to see the manifestation of culture in other TV series as well.
