Strengthening the motivation of young people in contemporary music through the Youth Festival / Here the voice of all instruments can be heard
According to Fars News Agency’s music correspondent, Firoozeh Navai, a veteran flutist and judge of this period of the Young Music Festival, said: “Certainly, festivals like the Young Music Festival have been able to play a great role in identifying talented students over the years.”
Noting that I have had the honor of being a member of the festival jury for seven years and witnessing the progress made in various aspects of this event every year, the artist added: “What is certain is that the Young Music Festival has been able to Attracting young artists of our country, especially artists who live far from the capital in different provinces of the country to be effective. So that every year we see the presence of talents from other cities. At the same time, the number of participants each year indicates that the festival process has been evolving and evolving. During these years, the Young Music Festival has been able to strengthen the motivation of the young generation in the field of contemporary music. This year, in Group A, we had 23 participants in the flute section, and it was interesting for the jury to hear the works of each of them, and we listened to these works with enthusiasm, although the level of playing of each student was very different.
Asked how much the Young Music Festival has been able to play a role in highlighting classical music in the community, the veteran artist said: “Undoubtedly, the festival has performed well in this regard.” In previous years, there was a gap between classical music and society, and artists in this field did not have the motivation to highlight this branch of music. But in recent years, we have seen the growth of artists in the field of classical music. Especially since today we are facing a wide potential in this field. Simply put, classical music has evolved in recent years, and families are paying more attention to it than ever before. All this indicates that the perspective of classical music is clear and the position of this music will be established over time.
Navai pointed out that the level of works reached in the flute section was more favorable this year than in previous years, and said: “It is natural that this year there will be many jumps among the students of this instrument.” But I believe there is still a huge capacity for students to present their best at festivals like the Young Music Festival. At the same time, I hope that a professor will not encourage his student to participate in this festival until he is 100% sure. Because it has happened many times that the student participated in this event and could not reach the second stage, so he is frustrated. This year, 23 people participated in the A flute group, from which I think the best people should have been selected. However, the level of participants in groups A and B has improved a lot compared to the past, which is a good thing. But the number of participants in group “C” is decreasing year by year, which is unfortunate.
The artist continued: “Good management always makes a festival last.” That is why the Young Music Festival has been able to continue under the good management of Dr. Hooman Asadi during these years, despite the problems it has encountered. However, I believe that festivals can also play a role in the flourishing and guidance of talented students, but ultimately the government can make arrangements for the employment of festival-goers and music graduates. Today, we see that a large number of music universities graduate every year, but the reality is that their future careers are not as good as they should be. It is well known that one of the most famous flutists, Nicole, resigned from teaching at the University of Freiburg. When he was asked the reason for his work, he replied: How much should I give to the society every year, unemployed! Therefore, I think the government can provide long-term planning, employment opportunities for selected young people and music school graduates.
Asked how he assessed the level of judging the works compared to last year, the artist added: “I can not give a precise explanation about the judging of the works.” Probably because this year, due to coronary heart disease, each judge examined the works individually. But I can say that the main criterion of the judgments was the strength of the students, the ability and the focus of the students. I hope that the festival, like every year, can be an incentive to hear the sound of all the instruments and the young generation to get acquainted with different instruments and to be able to learn different instruments.
In the end, Navai said: “In recent years, I had suggested that instead of awarding cash prizes to the first and second place winners, an opportunity be provided for the winners to meet and talk with the best masters of each instrument in the form of master classes.” These masterclasses allow the chosen ones to learn more about the theoretical and practical angles of their choice. Because sometimes we see that despite the fact that the participant has a lot of talent, but the teacher has not been able to provide him with all the information and basics.
The artist added: “I hope that the cooperation between the festival staff and teachers will increase.”
Navai emphasized: I believe that not everyone should participate in this festival. Sometimes it may happen that a discipline does not have a choice at all, which is not a problem. What is important is that quality is not sacrificed for the sake of quantity. Of course, if more importance is given to the quality of the works in the festivals, so is the level of the festivals
