Technology companies are required to respect the privacy of young users – Mehr News Agency | Iran and world’s news

In a letter, Ed Markey, Katie Castor and Laurie Trahan addressed lawmakers’ concerns about young online users and the recent commitments of tech companies, according to Reuters.

According to them, the task of the Federal Trade Commission is to ensure that technology platforms act in line with public statements and policies regarding the privacy of children and adolescents.

Last week, Francis Hogan, a former Facebook employee, testified at a congressional trade committee hearing that Facebook products harm children and the stock market and undermine democracy.

This provoked widespread criticism against Facebook.

“We encourage you to use all the tools at your disposal and review the performance of data in companies,” legislators wrote in a letter to the Federal Trade Commission, citing the growing use of online space by young users. Also ensure that they adhere to their public obligations.

In this regard, the UK has implemented changes in this area last month with the implementation of the “Age Appropriate Design Code”.

The Fed and Facebook have declined to comment.
