The first black female judge of the US Supreme Court has been approved

Katanji Brown Jackson was approved by 53 votes to 47 in the Senate. He will not swear immediately. Jackson will take office this summer following the retirement of current Judge Stephen Breyer.

Opposition Republicans accused Brown of being lenient with the crime and criticized him for making less harsh sentences in child sexual abuse cases, but the attacks failed to prevent Jackson from endorsing him. The majority of votes were approved.

The 51-year-old female judge replaces the retired Liberal judge Stephen Breyer, who is the oldest member of the Supreme Court at 83 years old. Of the 115 people on the Supreme Court so far, only two have been black, both men.

Jackson is the first black woman in the United States to be appointed to the Supreme Court. She will also be the sixth woman to serve on the Supreme Court, which currently has only three female judges.

The Supreme Court currently has six Conservative judges and three Liberal judges, some of whom have been appointed by former President Donald Trump.
