The reaction of the city council to cutting down the old trees of Al-Zahra University

According to a Fars reporter, Last Wednesday, Fars reporter published a report about the cutting of old trees in Al-Zahra University campus.

According to this report, Al-Zahra University (S) has cut down several old trees without obtaining a permit from the Article 7 Commission, while they informed the municipal authorities that 11 other trees were cut in this university in recent years without obtaining a permit.

District 3 municipality could not provide any permit to the owner about cutting trees

Ali Mohammad Mokhtari, CEO of the Tehran City Parks and Green Spaces Organization, expressed in the first reaction: The municipality of the region could not provide any permission to the owner in this regard, so this fine must be paid by the owner. Undoubtedly, we will deal with the cases in which violations have been committed through the law.

Twice the diameter of the cut or dried tree should be done in the same place or in the surrounding area of tree planting

He stressed that in relocations after receiving the permit, this work should be done in the appropriate season under the supervision of a green space expert. He said: “Definitely, the fines of this area will be announced and collected, and if a person does not pay the fine, we will deal with him through the judicial authorities.” Currently, we have open cases that are being pursued through judicial authorities. In addition, twice the area of the cut or dried tree trunk should be planted in the same place or in the surrounding area to provide green space per capita.

Is the crime of cutting trees a deterrent?

The CEO of Tehran Parks and Green Space Organization said about the deterrence rate of crimes of cutting and drying trees in Tehran city to prevent the repetition of such incidents: these crimes are deterrence. In fact, if the law is followed correctly, such violations will not be committed. The judiciary is following the issue seriously; The General Inspectorate of the country also requests severe punishment for these violators, and the violators will be dealt with. When an owner does such a thing, he must accept the consequences.

We will not let go of the issue of cutting trees at Al-Zahra University

Mehdi Chamran, head of Tehran City Council, stated that we are critical of the cutting of trees in Al-Zahra University, saying: We are protesting this issue and we will follow it and will not abandon the issue. The university president should explain in this regard. Preservation of trees to improve the city’s air should be considered. Our efforts should be such that the number of trees in the city increases.

He added: There is no beauty for buildings like planting trees. Thick and powerful trees are valuable, so we will owe these devices that cut down trees, and the municipality will take action to resolve this matter between us, because no one has the right to violate the rights of the people in the city.

To prevent the epidemic of tree cutting in Tehran

Nasser Amani, a member of the Program and Budget Commission of the Islamic Council of Tehran, also mentioned the epidemic of tree cutting in the capital and expressed regret that Al-Zahra University had cut down trees with a large diameter. He said that the university authorities cut down the trees even though they were dry, but there was no sign of drying in them.

He considered the cutting of trees by a public and academic institution unacceptable and referring to the non-payment of fines for previous violations of Al-Zahra University (S) said: When trees are cut in the seismic center and the result is not known, some run away and They are cutting down trees and we will definitely see cutting down trees by public institutions and government agencies in the coming days.

We can not let the trees go uncut

Emphasizing that the municipality should adopt a new mechanism for this issue, this member of the city council said: “We cannot do anything about air pollution, but we can not allow the trees to be cut and the current environment should be preserved.”

Collecting fines or fees from those who cut trees without legal permission is nearly four decades old and is a lever to prevent tree cutting, and the amount of the fine increases every year according to inflation and with the approval of the city council.

Tree certification is a way to preserve the urban environment

In 2013, with the vote of the then members of the city council, the fine for cutting trees without permission was increased by 2 to 5 times compared to previous years. But it seems that the entry of the city management into the discussion of maintaining old trees as a natural heritage of the city and giving birth certificates may be able to prevent their destruction to some extent and help maintain a more favorable urban environment.
