The story of “Chamran” martyr’s surgery without anesthesia / The hands that operated for half a century!

Health Department of Fars News Agency – Mohammad Rezazadeh: Professor Manouchehr Devai has a great contribution in training more than 3 generations of doctors. From attending Jundishapor Hospital in Ahvaz during the war to teaching in Shahid Beheshti Medical Sciences and providing services to patients in Imam Hossein (AS) Hospital. A professor for whom faith and morals were always a priority, and now he is no longer among us after the passing of time and after 86 years of service.

A man who, according to his friends, never got angry, and according to his wife, “a kind and compassionate man who was never absent, but the shadow of his love was always over the family.” Manouchehr was born in 1315 in Tehran and due to the fact that his father was a pharmacist in the name of Tehran, his interest in the treatment and healing of patients also appeared in him to the extent that he was accepted with an excellent score in the medical entrance exam of the University of Tehran and during the course He left the country and went to America to continue his education in general medicine.

*Education in America; Living in Ahvaz

Manochehar stayed in America for 9 years and after finishing his studies at Johns Hopkins University, even though he could stay in this country, he decided to return to the Islamic homeland, and despite the availability of suitable facilities in Tehran, he chose Ahvaz as his place of service. They choose

After living in Ahvaz, Dr. Dawai worked in various positions as the head of the medical school, vice president of university research, and head of Ahvaz University, together with his friends and students, to raise the name of this university.

Manochehar stayed in America for 9 years and after finishing his studies at John Hopkins University, he decided to return to his Islamic homeland, even though he could stay in this country.

He was a continuous member of Iran Academy of Medical Sciences since 1369 and was recognized many times as an exemplary doctor by the Cancer Association, the Society of Iranian Surgeons and the Academy of Medical Sciences. Dr. Douai, the founder of Imam Hossein (AS) Hospital in Tehran, was a member of the founding board and the board of directors of the Iranian Cancer Society and was elected as the president of the Iranian Cancer Society from August 1392.

* Acquaintance with Shahid Chamran

It had not been long since he settled in Ahvaz that the war sound was heard. But Dr. Douai not only does not leave the scene, but with all his sense of religion to the country and high commitment to serving his fellow men, he keeps him as a surgeon on the front throughout the war, and the hand of fate laid the groundwork for his encounter and acquaintance with the martyr Dr. Mustafa. It becomes “Chamran”. Among his memories from that time, performing surgery on Chamran’s leg in the operating room of Golestan Hospital in Ahvaz surprised everyone without anesthesia.

In a part of his memoirs, about his acquaintance with Martyr Chamran, Ostad Dawai says, “A clear example of self-sacrifice and chivalry was Martyr Dr. Chamran. In the battle of Sosangard with the Iraqi Baath forces, after the conquest of Sosangard, many injured people were transferred to Golestan Hospital in Ahvaz, and among these wounded, the Commander-in-Chief of Operation Martyr Chamran was also present, but even though his wound was in a bad condition, he did not express himself and sent other people to the room. Action drives.

I had the honor of doing Dr. Chamran’s surgery. Martyr Chamran’s femur was crushed and bleeding due to a mortar hit. “That wound was a bad wound because there are fragments of mortar shells, grass and mud and everything you think of in war wounds or natural disaster wounds, and in fact these wounds are not ordinary wounds.”

* We operated on Dr. Chamran with few tools and without anesthesia

Many doctors during the war sometimes had to perform two surgeries in the same operating room due to the large number of wounded. On that day, another surgery was being performed in the operating room of Golestan Hospital in Ahvaz, and due to the lack of facilities, Dr. Dawai was forced to operate on Dr. Chamran in a corner of the operating room with few tools in hand and without anesthesia.

During the surgery, Dr. Chamran was conscious and was praying and talking to God and reciting verses of the Quran

Ostad Dawai said: “We had to stop Dr. Chamran’s bleeding without anesthesia and only by using sedatives. During the surgery, I asked him from behind the curtain that is drawn in front of the patient’s face, how are you? In response, he said, “You do your work and I do mine.” During the surgery, Dr. Chamran was conscious and was praying and talking to God and reciting verses of the Quran.

*We have kept Shahid Chamran’s handwriting on our eyes

While Dr. Chamran was under the supervision of the surgical team in the hospital, the 12-year-old daughter of the medical professor asked him to use the opportunity to get a souvenir from him. Shahid Chamran writes a manuscript with beautiful sentences addressed to his 12-year-old daughter with his inappropriate situation. In this regard, the professor of medicine says, “We have been keeping an eye on the handwriting of martyr Chamran.”

* We did not see our families for 9 years

9 years of living in exile and loneliness but together, they return at the same time as the victory of the revolution and this time they experience 17 years of living together in Ahvaz. Living with a man who operated until three in the morning. Mrs. Shoja says about her 54-year experience of living together: “It’s hard to believe, but believe me, we haven’t gone to a party or a trip safely together in all these 50 years. Even if we made a plan and convinced the doctor to go on a trip, he would say all the time that I am suffering mentally and physically because I left the patients and came.”

Can you believe that we didn’t have a phone call with my family during the 9 years we were there because there were no facilities.

He talks about the hardships and sweets of living with the medical legend “I was only 15 years old when I got married and we immediately went to America. The conditions of our travel and stay 50 years ago are not at all comparable to today. Can you believe that we didn’t have a phone call with my family during the 9 years we were there because there were no facilities.

My family had to go to the artillery and we also went to the call center, and because our time was different, it never happened. We either wrote letters or recorded our voices and mailed each other. We were women of a generation who stood by our husbands.”

*We did not have a prosperous life, but I never complained

The life of doctors’ wives is an interesting story, and the life of a medical professor with a brave lady in a strange country is even more interesting; The late Dowai’s wife explains, “I was a 16-year-old girl who didn’t even know the language, and sometimes when the doctor was on shift, I stayed at home alone for two days. In a strange city. Our conditions were not like today, where everyone is in contact with each other every moment and commuting is easy. We could not see our families for 9 years.

We didn’t have a prosperous life, but I never complained about why you came late or why you weren’t there. I accepted that this is my wife’s job requirement and I should support her

I gave birth to my daughter alone, and I remember that I didn’t even know how to change the baby’s diaper and I was doing all the work by myself. We didn’t have a prosperous life, but I never complained about why you were late or why you weren’t there. I accepted that this is my wife’s job requirement and I should support her.

* I gave birth to my daughter in the same solitude

In the old days, women were more patient and built their lives from nothing. It was not like today that they moved in early and vacated the place. The Dawai family built their life from scratch. Mrs. Shoja narrates the first difficult period of her life like this: “I remember that at first his salary was very low. I folded pieces of paper and made curtains for our room. When the doctor came after two days of shift and saw that his smile of satisfaction was enough for me. Was.

I love every second of those days. These things filled our 9 years of loneliness. I gave birth to my daughter alone, and at first I didn’t even know how to take care of children and I didn’t have any help. We lived all these 54 years together in love despite living in very difficult conditions. “That year when we went to America, only one Iranian family lived in our city, and the communication was not at all comparable to today.”

* The sadness was my share

The late Dawai sometimes had a three-night shift at the hospital and his wife spent the nights alone with all the problems. The deceased’s wife further mentions the situation of their return to Iran and explains “ After America, we came directly to Ahvaz, which did not even have purified water. We had no facilities, but we were always happy for each other. We stayed in Ahvaz for 17 years, during all the years of war, our endless fears and worries, and the sadness that was my share. Doctors never cared about material things, and you may not believe how many years it has been since we became house owners. Maybe you still don’t believe that our share of the presence of the doctor has always been less than his patients. But I loved living with them moment by moment.”

*A love affair with the god of flight came

When we get to this point in the narrative, it seems as if a love affair with the god of escape has been reached and the call to leave has been sounded; On the day when his life story is going to be unveiled, the hand of fate is such that the day of re-reading the life book of this great man in the field of science and knowledge is the time to close and conclude his life story!

Yes! The unveiling ceremony of the book “Minouchehr”, the narrative biography of Dr. Manoochehr Dowai, was held today in the art field, and to the utter disbelief of the news of the death of this contemporary elite, it was published in the media at the end of the ceremony.

Zindayad Dawai, who was supposed to be one of the speakers of this ceremony, was hospitalized due to his illness. This topic and the expression of his sacrifices and memories brought the reaction and tears of his family, who were present at the event on behalf of this enduring scientific figure, and completely impressed the audience.
