Three Steps to Getting rid of obsessive-compulsive disorder

Life group:Is this carpet clean now ?! Are these sofas really good and do not need to be washed ?! Should the curtains be washed well or washed again ?! Questions that we may have heard a lot in the process of moving house, but what is the reason for all these questions ?! In an interview with Fars News Agency, family psychologist Dr. Samaneh Rezaei Farahabadi explained the reason for these obsessive behaviors.
What does obsession mean ?!
Most people believe that people who wash and rinse a lot are obsessed and are so-called obsessive people. But in a scientific definition, obsession is an obsessive-compulsive disorder. In obsessive-compulsive disorder, a person first has certain thoughts and these thoughts are repeated in his mind so much that he comes to the conclusion that he must do actions to get rid of these thoughts and this anxiety. So some thoughts also indicate obsession.
This carpet will not be cleaned until we wash it!
For example, some women believe that moving house should wash the items one by one and clean them in the best way, and if they do not do this, the thought is constantly repeated in their minds that these items have not been cleaned. We have often heard our mother or wife say no, this sofa was not cleaned. This carpet will not be cleaned until we wash it. I have washed the curtains but I do not like it, we have to wash again! Often there is no logical reason behind obsessive behaviors. Suffice it to ask, is this carpet so dirty that it needs to be washed? The answer is that I do not know, but it must be washed! We say yes obsessively when this should be exaggerated for no apparent reason.
Obsessive people are always asking questions of others
Is this carpet clean now ?! Are these sofas really good and do not need to be washed ?! Should the curtains be washed well or washed again ?! Questions that we may have heard a lot in the process of moving house, but what is the reason for all these questions ?! Obsession is caused by anxiety. People resort to practical obsessions to reduce their anxiety. One of the behaviors that reduces anxiety in the short term is approving others. That’s why obsessive people are always asking questions of others. However, the response of others does not matter even if it is repeated 1000 times and they continue their work.
So what is the solution?
1- Be honest with ourselves
Ask ourselves, what is the real reason for this house shaking and cleaning? We are going to enjoy this space ourselves. Let the family be happy. Is the living environment more beautiful or not, do we have other goals and reasons ?! If our goal is a healthy and happy life for ourselves and our family. Certainly these obsessive thoughts will come to us less.
2- Manage time!
Contrary to many people’s beliefs about obsessive-compulsive disorder, they are very regular and precise. For example, imagine that we are going to arrange comedy at the same house shaking ceremony. An obsessive person starts to sort out all the details of the closet very carefully and it takes hours. Prolonged work makes him tired and he stays away from other things; As a result, it has a clean closet and a cluttered and extremely dirty room! One of the behaviors that helps us avoid unnecessary behaviors and obsessive thoughts is time management. We can specify a time frame for moving house, for example, we say we clean our house in a week.
3- Get help from others
Most women have the illusion that they can do everything. That is, they think they can do everything themselves. Yes, a glass can be cleaned in the best way, but at what price ?! In return for the loss of physical and mental health ?! To prevent obsessive behaviors, we need to find out for ourselves what problems this behavior creates for me! Getting help from others can help maintain physical and mental health.
