The People’s Choice Award for the 2021 Toronto Film Festival went to “Belfast” by Kenneth Branagh.

Theater News Base: Belfast won the People’s Choice Award at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival.

Meanwhile, the Jury Platform Award, chaired by Riz Ahmed, went to “Uni” by Camila Andini of Indonesia, and the People’s Choice Award went to “Salvation” by A. Chi Vasarehli and Jimmy Chin. The Cannes Film Festival’s “Titan” by Julia Ducornao, winner of the Cannes Film Festival, also won the People’s Choice Award for Midnight Frenzy.

At the award ceremony, Brana mentioned the first world screening of “Belfast”, which took place at the same festival, as one of the most memorable experiences of his entire professional life, and said that so many cinema lovers had such a deep connection with this film to I was quite encouraging, as well as Jimmy Dornan… and we talked about it all night long and laughed and shed tears in your wonderful city.

The People’s Choice Award-winning film usually means predicting the Oscars, and last year Chloe Zhao’s “Land of the Displaced” first won the Toronto and eventually the Oscar. “Green Book”, “12 Years of Slavery”, “King’s Speech” and “Slumdog Millionaire” are other films that have had the same experience.

The second winner of the Canadian Drama Award was “Scarborough” by Shasha Nakhai and Rich Williamson, based on the best-selling Canadian novel of 2017. The film also won the Sean Mendes Foundation Award, which was accompanied by a $ 10,000 cash prize.

The third film was Jane Campion’s “Dog Power,” starring Benedict Cumberbatch.

The Toronto director’s first film award went to “St. Anne” by Ryan Vermitt of Montoba, Canada. The film also won the $ 10,000 Amplifier Sounds Award for Best Canadian Feature Film.

“Anatolian Leopard” received the Pfeiffer Age Award from the International Federation of Film Critics. Amre Kayesh was the producer of this film. The Pfeiffer jury described the film as a traditional, modern way of acting in a country in the form of a controlled comedy that depicts a man among the strange things that surround him.

The Netpak Jury Prize was awarded to Monya Aki’s “Costa Brava, Lebanon” in honor of Asia-Pacific cinema. The jury hailed the film as a unique inter-generational family story as an ode to a sustainable future in the director’s precious and troubled country.

At the closing ceremony of the festival, director Joanna Vincent and Cameron Bailey described this year’s festival as a collection that brought together the best from around the world, featuring works by popular author directors, as well as presenting new voices in filmmaking.

This year, the festival honored the great talents of the film industry with awards. Launched in 2019, the award was presented this year to actress Jessica Chastain and Benedict Cumberbatch, singer Dion Warwick, Danny Vilno, filmmaker Alanis Obomsavin and filmmaker Dennis Golt, and cinematographer Ari Wegner.

The Toronto Film Festival, which has been running since 1976, held its 46th edition this year from Friday, September 10 to last night (Saturday, September 17).

The festival, which this year was a combination of physical and the possibility of watching movies online, once again spread its red carpet, which at the same time was not as large as in the years before Corona.
