Toxic monitoring of more than 40 agricultural products/ the number of fields irrigated with wastewater is not high

According to the Fars news agency’s health reporter, Faramarz Khodaiyan said in a press conference today at the Food and Drug Organization about the monitoring of residual toxins in agricultural products: food security cannot be achieved without the use of agricultural toxins, pesticides and insecticides, and in order to increase productivity in agriculture, Use poisons.

He continued: The poisons that are used in agricultural products must have the permission of the Plant Protection Organization and their maximum allowed dose should be calculated in the produced product.

He said: “We are forced to use approved pesticides to improve the production of agricultural products.” The products that enter the market must comply with the permitted limits, and the Food and Drug Organization monitors the products after the production of raw agricultural and livestock products, and if the remaining amount of toxins exceeds the permitted limit, it is prevented from entering the market. In this regard, a document based on existing standards has been compiled.

He announced: Based on the approval of the Supreme Council of Health, it was established that the level of standards related to products such as tomatoes, cucumbers, eggplants, oranges, etc. should be monitored, and currently, the monitoring of toxins in more than 40 agricultural products is being done.

Director General of Food and Beverage Affairs of the Food and Drug Organization in response to the question of Tasnim reporter that what are the most agricultural products that have more than the allowed amount of toxins in them? He stated: Like all countries, in our country, some products have non-compliance, and in our country, some products have more than the permissible limit, toxic metals and nitrates, but vegetables have the most non-compliance; Non-compliance means that the permissible limits of agricultural pesticides in an agricultural product have not been observed.

He pointed out that the issue of not using wastewater in agricultural fields is in the field of the Ministry of Health’s deputy health department, and necessary correspondence and measures have been taken to avoid using wastewater for irrigating plants, and the number of farms that are irrigated with wastewater is not large.

Referring to the holding of the first exhibition of knowledge-based products in the field of food, medicine and medical equipment on the 8th and 9th of March this year at Imam Khomeini Mosque, Khodaian said: 475 pharmaceutical companies and 374 companies in the field of agriculture and food are present in this exhibition.
