Traffic accidents are the second leading cause of death in Iran

According to the Fars News Agency Health Group, in order to finalize the National Traffic Safety Document, a meeting was held to present the final report of the National Traffic Health and Safety Document.
Mohammad Ismail Motlagh, head of the Secretariat of the High Council for Health and Food Security, said at the beginning of the meeting: “Annual traffic accidents lead to the death of more than 1,350 people and injuries to more than 50 million people worldwide, and the first cause of death in The age group is 5 to 29 years old.

He pointed out that traffic accidents in Iran are the second leading cause of death, noting that annually about 16,000 people in Iran lose their lives due to traffic accidents. In addition, about 350,000 to 450,000 people suffer from injuries resulting from these accidents, which include physical, psychological, social and family problems.
“Every year, thousands of households suffer from severe economic conditions due to the death of their breadwinners due to road traffic accidents, and many of these households are reduced to poverty due to staggering economic costs,” Motlagh said. In fact, traffic accidents are one of the root causes of poverty in society.
Brigadier General Seyed Teymour Hosseini, Rahoor police deputy, also expressed hope that the results of this meeting would reduce traffic accidents in the country.
According to him, the issue of traffic is one of the special topics that is addressed to all members of society, including women, men, young, old, employees, workers, rural and … All of these can affect and be affected by traffic, and if we achieve a desirable and balanced point in this area, we can affect all the pillars of people’s lives.
He stressed: “Management in this sector is an easy and restrained matter, in the sense that the method of organizing this field is well known and the work done in developed and successful countries in this field is available and the way to success in this issue.” It is visible.
Brigadier General Hosseini stated: The difficult part of doing this is paying the organizing costs.
According to him, unfortunately, in the country, about 16,000 people die in traffic accidents every year and up to 300 people are injured, which in the most optimistic case, if 5% of this population is disabled, 15 per year. Up to 16,000 people in the country are disabled as a result of these accidents.
Hosseini added: “According to statistics, 52% of the victims die at the time of the accident and in the same place, 6% of them die while being transferred to the hospital and 42% in the hospital.” In the meantime, the role of the health sector is very effective, and in the field of education, organizations such as the Radio and Television, Education, the Ministry of Guidance and other agencies can play a key role.
