Ulyanov consulted with Mali during the Vienna talks
According to Fars News Agency’s International Group, Mikhail Ulyanov, Russia’s representative to international organizations based in Vienna, Austria, announced talks with the US representative for Iran during the Vienna talks.
He wrote in a tweet: Today I met with the US Representative for Iran, Mr. Robert Mali. Close consultations and coordination between the Russian and US delegations during the Vienna talks are an important precondition for progress in reviving the UN Security Council.
The Russian diplomat also announced yesterday the progress in the Vienna talks. He announced in a tweet: “Today, during the Vienna talks on BRICS, the working group on nuclear issues held a useful meeting. We are witnessing undeniable progress. The lifting of sanctions is actively discussed in informal settings.
“Of course, we have seen progress in the nuclear talks with Iran in recent weeks,” US State Department spokesman Ned Price said on Tuesday evening, claiming that Iran was not serious in the pre-negotiation period.
Speaking at a State Department news conference, he said: “We are currently assessing whether the Iranians have returned to the talks with a new agenda or with the same initial solutions as before.”
Price then accused Iran of prolonging the negotiation process, adding: “To date, the fundamental situation has not changed. Iran is also accelerating its nuclear program as it delays negotiations. We have made it very clear that this does not work.
Today (Wednesday) consultations took place in Vienna between the Iranian negotiating team and the present delegations. Following these consultations, a joint meeting was held at the Coburg Hotel in Vienna with the presence of Ali Bagheri, Senior Negotiator of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Enrique Mora, Deputy Foreign Minister for EU Affairs, and representatives of the three European member states (France, Britain and Germany).
Bagheri also had a bilateral meeting with Enrique Mora today. Bilateral and multilateral talks focused on the lifting of sanctions were held yesterday, and a working group on nuclear issues also met.
According to Fars, the eighth round of talks between Iran and the P5 + 1 group to lift sanctions against Iran began with the opening meeting of the Joint Commission of the UN Security Council on Monday evening, January 26, in Vienna. In this meeting, the negotiation process was evaluated. The meeting also discussed how to continue the talks.
Ali Bagheri, our country’s chief negotiator in yesterday’s meeting, referring to the progress made in the previous round, stressed the need to lift sanctions and provide adequate and objective guarantees from the other side and verify these measures, and said that the Iranian delegation Conversations are fully prepared.
At this meeting, all the delegations noted the progress made in the previous round of talks and announced their readiness to continue intensive consultations, and also stated that most of Iran’s proposals have been included in the new text. At the end of the meeting, it was decided that the negotiations and work on the text will continue from Tuesday, the 7th of January, in different levels and formats.
