Unidentified assailants attack the Tucson Islamic Center in the United States

Tucson Police Public Intelligence Officer Frank Magus said police had begun an investigation into the attack, adding that the suspects clashed with a group of people entering the center and beat one. The unidentified individuals also broke a glass of the center before leaving.

The Tusan Islamic Center posted images of the attack on social media and said in a statement that it would take further measures to protect its property and members of the Islamic community.

The Arizona Council on American-Islamic Relations condemned the incident and called for increased security at the center.

“We call on law enforcement officials to increase security measures around the mosque and in all mosques and places of worship across the United States,” said Azza Abu Sayif, the council’s executive director, in a statement. This attack must be taken seriously in light of the violent incidents that target minority communities across the United States.

The American Civil Liberties Union estimates that there have been about 10 attacks on mosques in Arizona since 2005. The latest attack on the Tusan Islamic Center is the 11th such incident.
