US hopes for a positive response from North Korea to the talks

After expressing hope for a positive North Korean response to the talks, US government spokesman Ned Price reiterated that the United States had the necessary readiness and will to start negotiations with North Korea, IRNA reported Wednesday, quoting Yonhap News Agency. It has no preconditions.

“Through a public and private message, we made it clear that we were ready and showed the will to start diplomacy,” he added in a telephone interview with reporters. “We continue to hope that North Korea will respond positively to the progress of these talks.”

The remarks come as the Biden administration’s administration may return to the “patience strategy” that was the former Barack Obama administration’s approach to North Korea after months of disregard by North Korea.

“In recent months, we have made clear our position that the United States has no hostile intentions against North Korea, and to prove this, we are ready to negotiate without any preconditions,” Ned Price added.

At the end of the conversation, the US government spokesman told reporters: “While we are talking closely and consulting with our allies, including Japan and other countries, but we hope that North Korea will give us a positive response.”

Since the beginning of Joe Biden’s presidency in January, North Korea has not responded to any preconditions for the start of talks between the two countries. It has also withdrawn from nuclear disarmament talks since 2019.
