US: The war in Ukraine will be prolonged / We will continue to work with Russia on Iran

Reacting to Biden’s claims that US President Joe Biden had claimed that Russia had committed genocide in Ukraine, Sullivan said: “The president has assessed that Russia and Vladimir Putin are determined to erase the Ukrainian identity and its independent identity.”

He continued: “When you put this next to mass murder, in the eyes of the American president, it is a genocide.

Noting that this is “the personal opinion of the President of the United States,” Sullivan said that there is a legal process in the State Department to determine whether genocide has taken place, which usually takes a long time.

He went on to say that the war in Ukraine was likely to last for months and even longer.

Sullivan, however, noted that saying that the United States would lift sanctions against Moscow after reaching a possible diplomatic agreement between Russia and Ukraine was not a definitive conclusion.

“The main aspect of this depends on the form and scope of this diplomatic agreement and how the Ukrainians and Europeans consult with us,” Sullivan told a meeting of the Economic Club in Washington.

He added: “We are not going to reach an agreement on the Ukrainians and reduce sanctions on Russia under this agreement.” But if some steps to reduce sanctions are included in a credible diplomatic solution led by the Ukrainians, this is something we will be happy to evaluate.

We will continue to work with Russia on Iran

In another part of his speech, Sullivan said that the United States has a long history of cooperation with Russia and continues to cooperate with Moscow on issues such as Iran and the International Space Station.

“One of the examples we have to continue working with Russia is on the Iranian nuclear talks,” he said. So it is not the case that American diplomats never communicate with Russian diplomats. The two countries are also cooperating on the International Space Station.

“We have a history of working with Russia, even on extraordinary issues,” Sullivan said.

In an interview with CNN on Wednesday evening, US Deputy Secretary of State for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland said that US President Joe Biden’s remarks about “Russia committing genocide in Ukraine were sincere.”

Nuland said the United States has a process of gathering evidence to officially declare genocide, and that process will be completed over time.

He continued: “I predict that after gathering the evidence, we will reach the same conclusion that Biden pointed out, because what is happening on earth is not accidental.”

The US president has accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of “genocide” for the first time in his continuing verbal attacks, saying Putin’s attack on Ukraine was “genocide”.

Speaking in Iowa local time on Tuesday evening, Biden described his government’s efforts to address rising costs in the United States amid the war in Ukraine. The declaration of war depends on a “dictator” committing “genocide” on the other side of the world.

Biden said Russian President Vladimir Putin was committing genocide in Ukraine, but that “researchers and lawyers” should use the term internationally, CNN reported Wednesday. Make decisions.

In the event of a formal declaration of genocide, countries that are party to the UN Convention on Genocide are legally obliged to intervene in the cessation of genocide.

However, Biden’s remarks have drawn the displeasure of its allies.

“I want to do my utmost to stop this war and make peace, but the escalation of rhetoric will not help,” said French President Emmanuel Macron.

Criticizing the West’s indifference to Moscow’s security concerns, Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 21, 2022, recognized the independence of the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics in the Donbas region.

Three days later, on Thursday, February 24, 1400, Putin launched a so-called “special operation” against Ukraine, shifting tensions between Moscow and Kiev to a military confrontation. The war in Ukraine and the reactions to Russia’s action continue.
