Video selfie; New Instagram solution to deal with fake accounts

Instagram is developing a new way to authenticate its users. Video selfie is a new solution that Instagram uses to register users.
Social media expert Matt Navara has discovered a new feature in Instagram demos that requires a user to use a selfie to verify their identity. Meta (or formerly Facebook), the company that owns Instagram, says that these videos will not be stored on Instagram servers at all and will all be deleted within 30 days.
The owner of Instagram says that this method does not use face recognition to authenticate users; Instead, it is considering another way to prevent fraud. Meta will use artificial intelligence algorithms to detect the authenticity of a person appearing in the video.
In the submitted videos, the user’s head is examined from different angles. Instagram has been working on this feature for a long time, and its first test dates back to August last year. But the reason for the delay in its development was the technical problems that existed in this way. These problems now seem to have been removed for use.
The Instagram video selfie authentication system will only be for users who want to create a new account on this social network and will not affect the activity of current users. Of course, it is not clear whether this authentication system will be used for current users or not.
Currently, many virtual banking systems inside and outside the country also use the video selfie method to authenticate their users. For example, the popular Bumble app has been using this method for some time. But running it on a large platform like Instagram, which is used by hundreds of millions of users around the world, is much more complex. But if it succeeds, it could mean preventing the creation of fake accounts, which are often created to harass other users.
