Water behind Minab Dam doubled / Impact of southern floods on dam water storage

According to the economic correspondent of Fars News Agency, in the last 2 weeks, the south and southeast of the country witnessed very high rainfall. For example, in Hormozgan province, 110 mm of rainfall was recorded in just 7 days. Meanwhile, the average annual rainfall of this province in the long run is less than 180 mm.

As a result of these rains, dam lakes located in the south and southeast of the country have seen an increase in water levels. Based on this, Dorodzan dam lake has witnessed an increase of 1.29 square kilometers of water level after the rains.

* The water level of Esteghlal Dam Lake increased by 8.5 km

Also, an increase of 0.55 square kilometers of water level has been reported in Mulla Sadra Dam Lake. Most of the increase in water level of the lake is related to the lake of Minab Dam (Esteghlal) in Hormozgan province, which has experienced an increase of 8.5 square kilometers. In other words, we saw a 100% increase in water level in Minab Dam.

In addition, Jagin Dam Lake has seen an increase of 2.06 square kilometers.

According to Fars, this increase in the level of the lake occurs in a situation where a significant volume of flood water was not stored in water structures and was dumped into the sea.

According to the statistics provided, nearly 100 million cubic meters of fresh water was sent to the sea in the Hormozgan flood. Water storage with up-to-date methods could solve the water problem of this part of the country to a great extent during the drought years.
