What are the changes of the 40th Fajr Film Festival / Elimination of “New Look” in favor of the first films

According to Farsar News Agency, the 40th Fajr Film Festival is scheduled to be held in February of this year. A festival that has taken a serious step in changing its approaches this year with the coming to power of the 13th government; From the transformation of the presence of the first films in the festival to the addition of the “cultural section” along with the “competitive section” and the special effort to accept films with a focus on creating hope.
Masoud Naghashzadeh, the secretary of the 40th Fajr Film Festival, in an interview with the festival’s press office about how the Fajr Film Festival is held and the changes in this cinematic event, said: “The changes in the festival are in the approaches and procedures.” Therefore, the word change about the identity of the Fajr Festival is not our criterion; Because the Fajr Film Festival is not only in the title but also in the identity, it is contemporaneous and born of the Fajr decade. But in terms of approach, this year, along with the competition of new productions of Iranian cinema, we will see the manifestation and development of cultural programs of the festival. If we believe that thanks to the bravery of the Fajr creators of Iran, the new cinema after the Islamic Revolution has grown, improved and gained credibility, then relying on the cultural originality of such a cinema doubles the vision and responsibilities of holding the Fajr Festival.
He added: “In this period, there has been a serious focus on preparing and compiling detailed regulations, with clear goals and regulations and its implementation.” Efforts have been made to prepare and publish clear procedures for the most important executive processes of the festival.
Naghashzadeh further stated referring to the programs of this festival: The 40th Fajr Film Festival includes two groups of programs, in “cultural sections” and “competitive sections”. During this period, the cultural programs of the festival have been emphasized. These programs include four sections of the treasures of Iranian cinema (permanent frames), cultural conferences of cinema and thought with the presence of great thinkers and culture (10 nights with thinkers), wedding of cinema greats (lasting maps) in the form of detailed programs with film screenings and analysis. Media reviews and sessions around the films of the competition section.
He continued: “In this period, a number of specialized and professional workshops in the field of cinema will be held, and with the planning of the Fajr Festival, prestigious universities and research centers will participate in holding specialized workshops and cinematic professions.”
The secretary of the 40th Fajr Film Festival said: “A glance at the regulations of this period shows that in the central hall of the festival, besides showing the films of the Iranian TV competition and related media meetings, there are serious programs for holding cultural and specialized gatherings and paying special attention to treasures.” Valuable modern Iranian cinema with the focus on the concepts of hope, ethics and awareness, is the title of the ritual of this period. Obviously, with the presence of educated people in the field of cinema and culture, in the central hall of the festival, the necessary ground for cultural re-reading of Iranian cinema will be provided as a valuable opportunity.
* Judging the first films with the rest of the works
Naghashzadeh said about the presence of institutions and organizations such as Farabi Cinema Foundation, Hozeh Honari and Ouj Organization in the section and how these organizations are present in the 40th festival: “Preliminary information shows the registration of films. They will be present with works that deal with cultural values on the one hand and attract avid spectators on the other. But judging the quantity and quality of these works requires going through the selection and judging processes.
Regarding the presence of works in the fortieth period, he said: “Every year, the Fajr Film Festival is very well received by filmmakers and producers.” The exact answer to this question will be possible after the completion of the review process and the final selection of the works of the competition section and receiving the final version of the works. Predictions show a variety of works and prolific days for Iranian cinema.
Regarding the elimination of the New Look section (first films), the secretary of the Fajr Film Festival said: “Not only has the first films competition not been eliminated, but the first films will be reviewed and judged for all disciplines along with all the films submitted to the competition.” The only difference between this period and some previous periods is that a separate part from the main part of the Iranian Cinema Competition (Simorgh Soda) is not foreseen for showing the first films, and this is in favor of the first films. Therefore, any film, whether it is the first or the last made by a filmmaker, if it has the necessary cultural and cinematic values, will be eligible to participate in the Iranian cinema competition.
He also said about how the works of “Art and Experience” are shown in this period of the festival: the interpretation of removing the films of “Art and Experience” from the Fajr Film Festival is not correct; Because all films, if they are considered by the festival selection committee and enter the Iranian cinema competition, will be judged in different fields, but we will not have a separate Simorgh entitled “Art and Experience”. Therefore, it is obvious that the expressive abilities or special cinematic experience, in all fields, will be considered by the esteemed selection and judging boards.
He went on to say about the merger of the two world and national sections of the festival: “In February 1401, we will witness the holding of the Fajr International Film Festival on a large scale and, of course, empathy.”
Naghashzadeh added: “Inviting cultural and cinematic personalities to review and judge the works in a principled and fair manner has always been one of our main concerns in holding the festival. Insha’Allah, we will do our best to take appropriate measures to preserve and protect The values of Iranian cinema, let us witness the fairest choices and judgments.
In the end, the secretary of Fajr Film Festival said about the need to seriously consider more global interactions of Iranian cinema: “We strongly believe that the” art of industry “of Iranian cinema should always benefit from the opportunities of domestic, regional and international markets in a healthy and wide context.” From next year, and as a result of such an approach, special attention will be paid to the establishment of the film market, in accordance with international standards and new methods.
