He added: According to the documents of the World Health Organization, people 60 years old and older are known as elderly people, and based on this, the elderly are divided into three groups: 60 to 69 years old (elderly), 70 to 79 years old elderly, and 80 years old and older. , the elderly are divided.

Hashemi continued: Considering the special needs of old age, paying attention to the quality of life of the elderly is an important matter that is mostly neglected. Due to the increase in the number of elderly people in our country, special attention to their various needs requires developed programs that match the anatomical, neuroanatomical and physical changes of this valuable group of society.

He added: Maintaining the qualitative and quantitative abilities of speech and language in old age can play a valuable role in their relationship with the society. The greater their ability to communicate, the more marginal problems that may result from this lack of communication.

Hashemi said: With a proper initial examination and diagnosis of the type of speech and language disorder of the elderly, a suitable treatment program can be started, and this treatment and early intervention can lead to the comprehensive development of the elderly’s communication with the outside world. Hashemi said: The treatment of oral-pharyngeal swallowing problems is one of the specialized duties of speech therapists who can evaluate, treat and provide specialized consultations for people with swallowing disorders and elderly people with these disorders.
