A mother through the lens of a midwifery expert / the need for skin-to-skin contact with the mother after birth

Life group; زینب نادعلی: The concept of motherhood from the perspective of nurses and obstetricians is a little different from what other people believe because they have seen and heard the pain and suffering of motherhood more than anyone else. We went to the waiting room of the hospital maternity ward. Where fathers are waiting for their children to be born to see how they feel.

They say sit in the waiting room. We will wait with the fathers who are waiting to see their children. Their stress seems to penetrate our souls as well. Sometimes a father is called and he walks in and back for a few minutes. Tears of joy flow and she turns a box of sweets between us. Others congratulate and wish good health. I wish all expectations were so sweet and hearty.

About an hour later, the sound of a baby crying promises to be born. They shout at us and say we can go inside. Samira Karimi is the midwife we are going to talk to. He just finished his work a few minutes ago. He puts the baby in his mother’s arms and comes to greet us. We sit down and start a conversation.

Describe a mother through the eyes of a midwifery expert.

Being a mother and being pregnant is sacred to raising a person for 9 months. You bear its weight. You feed on meat and bones and its existence. You can no longer wear any clothes. You can not go anywhere. You can not eat any food and you can not do whatever you like. 9 months should be the desire to sit and get up, eat and sleep. You endure every hardship so that the slightest harm does not happen to your child! Becoming a mother has a heavy price that you pay for it.

At the end of these 9 months, dear mothers will enter a more difficult stage. Natural childbirth or cesarean section does not matter which one they choose. They have to endure suffering for their child to be born. Some women are even scared and stressed when they see the operating room. Just a few minutes ago, a baby was born whose mother had suffered from stress, nausea and shortness of breath.

What is fear and stress from ?!

This fear and stress is more in women whose first pregnancy. Because they do not know what is going to happen in the delivery process and it is unclear to them. We do our best to reduce the severity of this hardship and fear. Sometimes we get help from their spouse or mother. We use a midwife and we do everything we can to make them feel better.

Are these hardships worth becoming a mother?

Yes, according to mothers who have given birth here, these hardships are worth it. When, immediately after the baby is born, we show it to the mother and hug her. All these stresses and hardships give way to an indescribable sweet feeling.

Is that moment sweet for you too ?!

That moment is very beautiful for us too and we get tired of it. Working in the maternity ward is so sweet that you do not notice its tiredness, but when you go home, you realize how tired you are!

Did you have a visit for 01/01/01 ?!

In previous years, there may have been clients who wanted their child to be born on a special date, but we did not have such clients this year. With the culture that has been created, I think all mothers want to be healthy and perfect instead of having their child born on a specific date. On the other hand, our hospital and the doctors here do not treat the clients as they please when giving birth to babies, but prioritize their health, which is why we have not had such cases in the last few years.

Mothers who hold their babies for a few more days until, as they say, they are born on a date of luxury. What dangers do they face?

When the gastrointestinal tract is fully developed, it secretes secretions that we call the baby’s excretion of magnesium. If the baby is in the mother’s womb. This happens and the baby eats the discharge is very dangerous for his health. Women who want to keep their baby in their womb a little longer so that the birthmark is special and luxurious. Blood, lung infections, etc. Certainly no mother is willing to endanger her child’s health.

Is there any need for mothers to intervene in the date of birth of babies?

Our bodies are created in such a way that all stages of pregnancy are in accordance with the principles. Our body knows how to get pregnant and how to get pregnant, and it sends signals to the person whenever it is time to give birth. Pregnancy is a completely normal course that does not require intervention. The baby will send signals to the mother as soon as it is born. Either the mother is in pain or the gallbladder opens or ….

What about giving birth sooner ?! What problems does it cause in the baby’s health?

Mothers and fathers who, out of ignorance of health, sacrifice their child to the history of Rand and give birth to it earlier, should know that each day of pregnancy is equivalent to how many years of growth for the baby. The baby’s growth and the nervous system and its cells must be complete so that it can better tolerate the environment outside the mother’s womb and the brain can process the information it receives from the environment. If intrauterine life is not completed and the baby is born earlier, the lung may not be fully developed and the baby may be transferred to the NICU for a few days. In this situation, the mother will be deprived of the pleasure of skin-to-skin contact and seeing her child for a few days.

What do you mean by skin contact?

Emotional communication is very important in the first hours. We try to have skin-to-skin contact with the mother immediately after the baby is born. Skin-to-skin contact in the first moments of birth is very beneficial for both the baby and the mother. Enhances breastfeeding. It strengthens the bond between mother and child, and the mother becomes responsible for protecting her child. On the other hand, suffering and hardship in childbirth will be reduced and the mother will be stronger to endure the pain. Mothers who interfere with their child’s date of birth are denied skin-to-skin contact and its benefits.

The most memorable memory you have of the delivery ward?

One of the strange memories in my mind is the birth of one of the martyrs’ wives. A woman came to us to give birth to her baby, who lost her husband the night before in one of the Syrian regions. We were giving birth to a baby who was silent for a few minutes in the delivery room. After a few minutes, the martyr’s wife turned to me and asked: Did you see Ms. Karimi ?! Hazrat Zainab had come here. We were very changed, we both cried and we were happy that he had a good emotional connection.

Tell us about the Corona era, about the birth of Corona mothers!

It was a very bad time and we have bitter memories of that time. For example, we used to communicate with pregnant mothers with coronary arteries for a while. We talked and I laughed. We took the ECG of the fetus, but they died a few days later, and this had a very bad effect on our mood. We had a pregnant woman from Corona who had to give birth earlier due to her poor physical condition. There was a lot of eye for her child. We gave birth to a healthy baby, but the mother did not survive and died. She did not see her baby and could not hug her child!

Remember the youngest mother who gave birth here?

Our youngest client was a 16-year-old girl. His mother was 32 years old. The age difference was so small that we did not think they were mother and daughter. We thought they were sisters.

How do you feel about the babies you give birth to?

We rejoice and laugh with almost all mothers, and sometimes we cry and cry with them. Some babies are so funny and special that we remember their faces. We take pictures of the babies and keep them to ourselves. Sometimes mothers bring up their children after a few years and say that you gave birth to my daughter or son. This makes me very happy and makes me feel good about that moment.
