US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken says US President Joe Biden had little time to leave Afghanistan.

According to Sputnik, the US Secretary of State said that US President Joe Biden had very little time from his former president to maneuver the situation of the withdrawal of his troops from Afghanistan.

He also noted that the White House had to comply with the agreements reached under former US President Donald Trump.

“When President Biden came to power in January, he received a deal from his former presidents with the Taliban to withdraw all remaining US troops by May 1 this year,” Blinken said. “It had no other performance.”

Under the deal, Trump’s previous administration guaranteed the release of 5,000 Taliban prisoners, including senior military commanders, from Afghan authorities. “According to a document signed in February 2020, the US military presence in Afghanistan should be reduced to 2.5,000,” Blinken said.
