But according to the head of Khoy Department of Industry, Mines and Trade, rising raw material prices in domestic markets, exchange rate fluctuations, rising wages, lack of proper marketing for this industry along with the problem of carpet weavers’ insurance are among the problems that hamper the production and sale of hand-woven carpets. Amir Jafari stated that at present, 5,500 home carpet weaving workshops are active in this city and they consume handmade carpets and rugs.
He states that there are currently 38 decentralized carpet weaving workshops in the city with centralized management and 2 carpet weaving complexes.
He continued that in order to supply raw materials for Khoy carpet weaving workshops, there are seven yarn and silk dyeing units, which has eliminated the need for weavers and hand-woven carpet producers to go to other cities to supply raw materials.
The head of Khoy Industry, Mining and Trade Department considers the existence of 104 carpet stores of products produced in this city as an opportunity to offer this product to domestic and foreign buyers.
Jafari believes that the carpet industry in this city has provided direct employment for 25,000 people, of which 2,900 have self-employed insurance services and 320 have workshop insurance.
Production of 290,000 square meters in West Azerbaijan

The Deputy Minister of Commerce of the Industry, Mining and Trade Organization of West Azerbaijan confirmed this and added that hand-woven carpet weavers operate in seven complexes.
Mohammad Dehghan, referring to the collective insurance of carpet weavers, stated that at present, 12,708 people are insured with carpet weaving insurance in the form of social security and 4,609 people are insured in the form of insurance of the Agricultural Social Fund, villagers and nomads.
Noting that supporting the activists of this sector is a priority, he said that in this regard, with the cooperation of the Omid Entrepreneurship Fund, more than 300 people in the province have been paid loans to buy handmade carpets.
But it is not enough to just pay attention to the production of carpets, and these are carpet weaving workshops that produce and market thousands of square meters of carpets and rugs every year, and along with these factors, it is these consortia that provide the ground for more exports.
