* “Indiana Jones 5” Williams’ latest filmmaking activity
Williams says he intends to continue working on music, but will quit working on film music after the release of “Fablemans” and “Indiana Jones 5”.
John Towner Williams (born February 8, 1932) is an American composer, music leader, and pianist. During his seven decades of career, he has composed some of the most popular, well-known and acclaimed music in the history of cinema. He has won 25 Grammy Awards, seven BAFTA Film Awards, five Academy Awards and four Golden Globe Awards.
Legendary composer John Williams is preparing to say goodbye to film music after 60 years of musical activity and making dozens of soundtracks and receiving five Academy Awards.
Williams said in a new interview with the Associated Press that he is currently working on the music for “Indiana Jones 5” and believes it will be his last film.
* John Williams: Harrison Ford is younger than me and wants to retire so I can too
“I’m currently working on Indiana Jones 5, which I think Harrison Ford – who is a little younger than me – has announced will be his latest film,” Williams said. “So I thought, ‘If Harrison can do that, then maybe I can.’
While Williams has categorically denied making music for other films, he says he will not regret his musical life even if he never wrote any other music.
Making film music takes six months and is a long commitment for my age
Ford has not publicly stated that the “Indiana Jones 5” sequel will be his last film (while no other film projects have been announced, he has recently signed on to work with two A-quality TV shows), although this is the last time Is that he plays the role of an archaeologist. Regardless, Williams is preparing to end his filmmaking career, although he intends to continue writing music specifically for concerts. The 90-year-old composer said that it takes six months to make a great film, which is a long commitment for me at this stage of my life.
If this is really the end of his career in filmmaking, he will end everything in a proper note. This fall, Steven Spielberg’s 29th (and possibly last) film, “Fablemans,” will hit theaters. The collaboration between Williams and Spielberg is one of the most iconic music in the history of cinema, including “Jaws”, “Jurassic Park”, “ET” (extraterrestrial ET) and of course the “Indiana Jones” sequel. Williams’s final two films are Spielberg’s autobiographical look at his childhood and his decision to become a filmmaker and the final entry in one of the composer’s most popular cinematic sequels.
While Williams has categorically rejected making music for other films, he says he will not regret his musical life, even if he never wrote another.
“It has given me the ability to breathe, the ability to live and the realization that life has more things,” he said.
Williams has composed many acclaimed and popular films, such as The Skywalker Epic Star Wars. His other notable works include Jaws, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Superman, Indiana Jones, the first two films of Jurassic Park, the Schindler’s List, and the first three Harry Potter films.

Williams has composed many acclaimed and popular films, such as The Skywalker Epic Star Wars. His other famous films are Jaws, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Superman, Indiana Jones, the first two films of Jurassic Park, Schindler’s List, and the first three Harry Potter films.
He has also composed classical concertos and other works for orchestras and solo instruments. He was the conductor of the Boston Orchestra from 1980 to 1993 and is also a prominent conductor. He has been in contact with director Steven Spielberg since 1974, making music for all but five of his feature films, and has worked with George Lucas on both of his films.
In 2005, the American Film Institute named Williams’ music for “Star Wars” (1977) the best film of all time. The Library of Congress inscribed the Star Wars soundtrack on the National Recording List because of its “cultural, historical, or aesthetic significance.”
Williams entered the Hollywood Hall of Fame in 2000 and was awarded the Kennedy Center Medal of Honor in 2004. His Lifetime Achievement Award in 2016 was the first award given outside of acting and directing. He has composed nine of the top 25 US box office films (based on inflation).
His work has influenced other composers of film, classical and contemporary music. Norwegian composer Marcus Paus argues that “Williams’ satisfactory way of visualizing incoherent and avant-garde techniques in the context of a larger melody” makes him “one of the greatest composers of every century.”
